It's using NFC (Near Field Communication). Basically, any card you have that supports tap to pay could theoretically be detected by the EFTPOS machine when in close proximity to the reader. Whilst it will typically detect the card you're directly placing against the reader, there's no absolute guarantee that it will do this when you're presenting a bunch of cards in close proximity at the same time.How it manages to read a card other than the one touching the reader is confusing. This is not the first time either.
