Curious as to what people do to their rooms? Rearrange things? Put something in a particular way?

For me, my must dos are:
1. Get rid of excess pillows so that my feet can't touch the end of the mattress when I sleep
2. Untuck the top sheet or blanket so my feet can move freely
3. If there's a movable box of tissues in the room, it gets put into the main part of the room
4. If there are small bottles of bath amenities, will put them away and use my own (either from past stays, or bought ones)
5. Knock on the door before entering if I remember in case there are invisible beings in the room
6. Check if the bible is open if there is one in the room. Fortunately have never seen an open one.
7. Pick the side of the bed where I'm unlikely to see the mirror at night

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Number 5 would have been useful to someone else at the Cosmopoliton, Las Vegas recently. I was in my room, half undressed when another guessed onlocked the door and walked in. She was given my room. I think she was more shocked than me though.

Wonder how that could have happened. No flags on the screen when keying the cards at the front desk?

There was a similar thread a while back but same comment. If there’s a mini bar/fridge, make sure the thermostat is not set right down low. I can’t stand little noisy fridges going on / off / on throughout the night….

Tried a search but couldn't locate similar before I started the thread.

  1. Stick the 'do not disturb' sign on the door and use the latch/lock
  2. Turn off the TV, if it's on and displaying a welcome message
  3. Move the remote control away from the bedside table (as I never watch TV in hotels) - and then wash my hands
  4. Move all the breakfast cards, conserving water/energy cards etc off the bed and bedside tables
  5. Open the door for the cabinet where the bar fridge is, because I think the fridge needs a lot more air circulation
  6. Pop the bath mat onto the floor
  7. Check for and keep any nice toiletries, setting out my own
  8. Move the inevitable mass of colourful but useless cushions off the bed
  9. Iron my business shirts

Not much for me.

Check for possible noise sources - exhaust fans, elevators or vending if close by. If yes, get room changed.

At night - make sure the blinds are closed tight; I take a peg with me to peg them closed against light.

Check that the air con works, or I can figure out how it works

Clear the cough off the bed and the beds ide table

Find the power plugs!!!

Turn bar fridge off if possible (noise)

Check fire exit routes

I guess not. I had multiple weird things happen with that stay. Was there for work as part of a group booking. At check-in they had me leaving one night early. Explained my correct check-out date.

Came back around midnight to my room. Checked out the balcony and a few minutes later someone from the hotel knocked on my door to check if the room was occupied. 15 minutes later someone called to apologise, but couldn't explain why someone came to my room. Tried offering me a late check-out (already had one arranged). Just weird all round. Landed up with a $400 USD food and beverage credit.

1) turn aircon to lower temp
2) boil water if there is a kettle
3) use boiled water to soak and clean the cups and any table utensils
4) sanitise the TV remote
5) ring up housekeeping to get new batteries for remote, extra pillow, ironing table and iron if not in room
6) clear the table
7) clear out the minibar and put in my own drinks (but first take a photo of the layout so it can be reproduced)

Rinse and/or wash all glasses/cups before use. I've seen some gnarly utube videos!

And removing all the bleeding throw cushions! Who invented those idiotic things, anyway? And removing the 'shoe protection' blanket thing from the bed. I don't wear shoes in a hotel room ever since I've been able to afford a room where my feet don't stick to the floor. since

1. Turn off the eternally freezing aircon

2. If I'm planning to photograph the room, do it first before I unpack any of my stuff or disrupt the room presentation.

Pretty much the same as our list of things - although MrsK also wipes down light switches anything else that other people have touched. If possible, she will also move chairs and lamps into places where she thinks they should be

Found condom packets in a bible in NZ Dunedin once.

For #2 on the list, I always feel like this - I dont know where they learn to make beds but I suspect they were in the army back in the 70s because those corners and tucks are tough to undo

I always unplug the clock and take out batteries - I was woken at 3am on a public holiday Monday after a grand final game by a pre-set alarm and said never again

I loathe those cushions. They aren’t washed between guests so who knows what’s on them. I always give my hands a thorough wash after moving them far far away.

I’ve never understood the strip of fabric at the end of beds. So that’s for shoe protection?

Keep all clothes and baggage off the carpet floors to avoid bed bugs.
Pee on toes in the shower to stop tinea.
Use my own Rexona and Head and Shoulders in travel sizes.
Figure out air conditioning temperature
Figure out tv remote.
Plug in Tumi adaptors to charge phone, IPad and Resmed sleep machine.

Apparently so
