The unlimited capacity bit means nothing as there are no capacity limits on the USA routes (unlike say Fiji or Indonesia) - only that they want to fly to the USA. They will announce BNE-HNL to start operating 3rd quarter this year. It's an obvious choice given their aircraft and other routes (i.e. BNE-HKT & MEL-HKT vacated by VA) and desire to avoid head-to-head competition with other airlines.
Well, what do you know? :D

I think it could be good in reducing my the price of my holiday airfares to the US on QF. :cool:

Great timing - just when Jetstar has got me acclimatised to flying to North America viaHNL & then stuffs up their "business class product" by removing QFF S.C./point earn (& max-ing out the price). I wonder if VC will be having business class seat sales, at some point soon?

Shame the timings arent a bit better. The 7am arrival is always a PITA with hotel checkins etc. I cant imagine too many business travellers using these flights.

Say dep 2355 arr 1110
and dep 1400 arr 2010+1

The plus side is that you get a full day on arrival so you can just dump your bags at the hotel have brekkie somewhere then go shopping, the beach or whatever.

Perhaps for whatever reason you want to connect straight away to one of the other Hawaiian Islands or fly on to the West Coast on a YUPP, KUPP etc etc.

On the return a 1610 arrival means that you can connect to the majority of regional centres on arrival without having to overnight in BNE whereas a 2010 arrival would only suit those living in BNE region.

Both QF & JQ arrive in HNL early morning...I've never not arrived in Hawaii in the early morning!

Most hotels let you check in early....worst case they take your bags and let you have a shower before heading out (my experience anyway)

The early a.m. arrival also works well (if with a fair bit of loitering time) for onwards connections to the mainland.

Before the JQ fare rejig I've used HNL as a stopover on a home-brew RTW (e.g in June, QF BNE->SYD Y, JQ SYD-HNL J, AA HNL-LAX-MCO F, VS MCO-LGW Y, VS LHR-HKG-SYD J) a couple of times.

I like evening departures when I take the kids - they sleep. Peaceful!

Is strategic planning on taking on any more A330's?

They are not very strategic when their sole 330 decides to go tech.

Yes, they have another one coming, although thats not always helpful as JQ know.
