What are Strategic up to?

That's what GOOD travel insurance is for. Plenty of the cheaper ones would not cover anything because a refund is being offered.

I have a hard enough time reading PDSs to determine if I'm covered for normal situations. Any idea if travel insurance direct covers this sort of event?

This is totally not legal advice.

It appears Travel Insurance Direct intends to cover situations such as this where people incur additional costs because of delayed flights. However, their policy does exclude loss caused by mechanical breakdown. Now, aren't the Strategic flights delayed because of a mechanical breakdown? I think it is arguable that they are and that any consequential loss was caused by the mechanical breakdown. The insurer might want to weazle out of paying up. Maybe. Once again that is not legal advice and should not be construed as my disapproval or otherwise of the Travel Insurance Direct product.

My earlier comment was directed more towards the ultra-cheap travel insurance products that provide medical cover, a token amount for lost baggage and not much else.

Unrelated, but currently on Darwin Radio they have been running a competition, that has a prize of "return flights, for four to Bali, FLYING STRATEGIC"

Interesting point, Strategic DO fly out of Darwin, but not commercially, they fly Darwin to Dubai weekly for the Australian Army.

No current flights to Bali from Darwin, but they obviously already have a commercial relationship with Darwin International Airport - anyone heard any rumors?

Since they've had their A330 out of action, they have put an A320 on the BNE-DPS route. Stopping over for fuel in DRW.

Does that have something to do with it?

Maybe they'll make it a set route? although you cant buy a ticket on it yet... maybe they are just awaiting approval?

Strategic have dropped GLT and now TSV-DPS!

What do routes do they have left?

Guess that means no more $69.00 BNE/GLT fares on QF then.

An aircraft refueller didn't exactly paint a rosy picture about their future.

Nor did a recent IT supplier ;), I suspect GLT will still have the specials it lacked until recently, its DJs first ATR route which explains why its also getting a QP.

ATR 42 or 72?

ATR72-500, to be replaced by 600s (possibly with J) next year.

Does anyone know when the ATR-72 goes into service for VA?
From October, I believe. They are getting the ATRs from Skywest (via a wet lease), and Skywest is getting them from Avation (from SIN).

Yes, Strategic's departure from GLT is sad. They offered great service and a fast, smooth, quiet flight. Pity their pockets weren't deep enough to continue operating in opposition to QF. VA coming will be smaller, slower, noisier aircraft with fare "option" of fare++++extras and still only two return flights a day. Hardly inpsiring compared to Strategic's offerings nor QFs.

Also their BNE-DPS sevices will be operated by A320 from 01 October with a tech stop on the outbound via DRW and direct back to BNE on the return.

Will they be selling DRW-DPS?

Dont Virgin do BNE-DPS nonstop on the 738?

Cannot imagine selling DRW-DPS would make sense, it would increase the costs for very little return given there are already two airlines on that route.
