Might send a little note to this Nicholle Lindner, Head of Cards (or should that be House of Cards ;) ).

I just read the start of an interview with our signee...

An Interview with Nicholle Lindner, Head of Cards, Westpac
By Melanie Timbrell, Journalist, FST Media, 31 Oct 2011

Timbrell: What are your key goals for Westpac’s card business in the next 12 months?

Lindner: Our focus over the next 12 months is centred on four key pillars:

• Delighting our customers
• Growing the business sustainably
• Managing the changing economic and regulatory environment
• Accelerating innovation

Couldn't read past "delighting our customers" (emphasis mine).

A huge success in making their loyal customers feel aggrieved? I suppose WBC have got publicity about the Black Card launch, but it has was not free.

.

yes, I agree. My post should have had a ;) after it

Be sure to tell Ms Lindner what you really think by emailing [email protected]

Mine didn't bounce, so looks to be legit.

Thanks for sharing the address - I had been looking for a new email, as the staff member I had been speaking to re: ongoing failed QF points has either left WBC, or has simply stopped replying to my emails (which weren't harassing - one every few weeks to ask for progress and yet another manual credit doesn't seem excessive)..... baha!

Well, it is now past 31st October 2012, so WBC's 12 month focus on delighting their customers is over and it's back to normal programming of reaming their customers.

No replies? Gee, they sure know to make you feel like a valued customer! ;)

I couldn't believe this topic I launched has got so many pages. Looks like WBC still gets heaps of customers.

I know, it still amazes me that so many people get credit cards from the Big 4 banks!

how so? Unless you have a Qantas Ultimate Amex the bank Amex cards are pretty good points earners. Certainly the attached Visas and MCs are not the best

I have an altitude platinum plus card. Received the letter saying that 'the changes should have very little effect on number of points you earn in the future". Having a look at my 2012 spend in one of the months i earned 58,000 points. so if the cap is applied i would forgo over 50,000 points for the month. This letter stating very little change is very misleading at best

I received the IHEA letter dated 8 March with no mention of Black although as others have mentioned when you read the FAQ page linked from the www.westpac.com.au/rewards/IHEA on the back of the letter the Black card is mentioned.

I've just called Westpac and the lady I spoke to said that just because the Black card hasn't been mentioned in the letter doesn't mean I won't be offered it. She said some letters mention it and some don't, depending on when the letter was sent, and that more letters regarding Black will be sent out later. I hope this is correct, as it doesn't seem correct that some letters were just "sent out without mentioning it, depending on the date" as if they accidentally missed mentioning it on some letters.

She said looking at my spend I will be affected (which of course I know!). She said she's in the "capping" section and to call back after March 25th and the people in the new "Black cards" section will be able to give me more information, and also that there will be full info about "Black" online on March 25.

I'm not buying into this BS, mind already made up that earth cards are going and will be before March 25th... (Just waiting for end of month statement then they will get my call ) Good luck to those waiting around for an "offer" with the new card, sadly I expect the new black card won't be anywhere near as good as their current offerings, hence why the "enhancements" being made... I suspect we will be asked to pay more for the "uncapped" earn option, effectively less points per $

If they end up with a good deal then I'll simply re-apply, but for now I'll be clearly voting with my feet with a quick walk to NAB

I've been following this thread and, like others, was initially shocked at the points capping being introduced and how it would limit my ability to earn QFF points using my Earth Platinum Plus card, as I have been doing. I was somewhat interested to hear that the Black cards were going to be introduced, though there seems to be some conjecture, confusion, uncertainty and differences between who will be getting what, when and for how much. And it does seem that Westpac is doing a poor job of getting all the information out in a timely and accurate fashion.

However, that said, for me at least, I don't see the need to be grabbing the scissors this week to cut up my card and discontinue its use right now. I've got at least 2 months where I can still earn points without cap, so I don't feel there's any need to rush my decision.

Also, I haven't yet received any postal mail regarding any of the changes... another reason I'm grateful for the information available on this forum. At least I know it's coming and I know that there are variations in the communication that is yet to come, and I'll be interested to see what I will be offered, compared to what others have posted here.

Until the full information for the Black product is available, I certainly won't be making any rash decisions. I'm sure all the correct information will come out in the fullness of time. Even when I call a Call Centre to seek out information, I always keep in mind that each person on the end may or may not have the correct and up-to-date information. Perhaps they are lazy operators, and don't read all the information updates that come out etc. A bit like a Tax Agent - you hope that you get one that is on top of all the latest changes and ways to get the best outcome, but sometimes they just don't know everything that is changing.

Yes, if your annual fee is due soon, then you may feel some pressure to make a decision, though I'm sure there'd always be an option to be able to ask for refunds etc. if you choose to cancel later. As a wise friend once taught me, "it's always worth asking the question".

I for one am going to continue to use my Earth Amex card until the changes, and in the meantime, I hope I do receive an offer for the Earth Black card, and that it will offer me favourable conditions. I hope that others don't make a premature decision without all the most accurate information. And even then, once things settle in the next couple of months, and if it's clear that the bank isn't being as generous to some with its offer of the Black cards, I'm sure the information gleaned from this forum may empower some to be able to contact the bank and request conditions which are suitable to them.

Of course, YMMV.

it would be nice to know why they want everybody on the Black card...and by such a low points cap on existing cards that's pretty much what they are trying to do...

Smells like the old "Bait & Switch" to me, but as you say, lets see...lets see

How on earth is it a bait and switch?

Products evolve. Sometimea what was a good choice a few years ago, may not be the right choice now.

Merchant fees, plus an annual fee hike in the future, plus reducing their insurance liability by having people switch products, I'd imagine.

AP+ visa/amex combo have just received the letter with the promise of a Black upgrade mc/amex combo but as always it the small print or lack there of that is the worry. Notably the redemption rates once your points are into Altitude, for me their conversion to Kris flyer is the DEAL CLINCHER.

My thoughts turn back about 9 years to when they halved the altitude point value without changing the earn rate by changing the redemption rates to QFF and Kris etc.

Unforunately all banks rely on the latency in the market while they slowly degrade the value of their program, eventually relaunching a new one to attract us back again.

Unfortunately signing new mortgage docs as we speak and the NUFFY at WBC has no idea about Black and therefore cannot negociate about reducing the yearly fee. Grrrrrr!!!!

Cheers Danger UXB

How on earth is it a bait and switch?

We will see, but I hardly think the new card will be better for the consumer, Westpac would hope that everyone is impressed with a new shiny card with unlimited points earn (Which has been the case for so long now so really where is the enhancement...?) but the devil is really in the detail perhaps...

Simply you trust them more than me which is your opinion, but remember this mob is a business, and their number 1 goal is to make money not to hand out free flights or points. Something for them has changed and perhaps their product no longer provides the return the share holders demand, or the greed has increased...

so the bait is the new un-capped card, the switch will be deep, deep in the fine print of the T&C's, pitty the poor buggers out there who don't know their plan yet and lose 0'000's of points all with the comfort of the bank telling them "these changes should have very little effect on the number of Qantas Frequent Flyer points you earn in the future"

If they get away with it, watch the others do the same...

Increased merchant fees on the companion Mastercard, I'd say. See Interchange rates | MasterCard® - Platinum card is "Consumer Premium" @ 0.96%, whereas World is "Consumer Super Premium" at 1.65%.

Hangon, have I missed something here? The Altitude -> FF program redemption rates are also changing?
