Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Not, and never was, the target market
Double Bay Today is a satirical news service, like The Betoota Advocate or The Onion.

Haha it was inevitable that someone wouldn't realise it was satire :)

I guess that's a sign of good satire - it's ridiculous, but just believable enough to catch a few people out :D

Sorry guys, we've all been there!

Anyone’s guess if they will start ops this year. Obviously both major airline groups looking down the barrel of what is going to be a cash burning Q1 FY27. They might use Q2 to keep a lid on capacity and try and pull back earnings via higher fares, IF fuel has subsided by later this year.

Jetstar has a stalled EBA at the moment so not sure if they will open a crew base off the bat.

I think what’s likely is flights being operated by other crew bases in/out initially. Only need Swissport etc on the ground initially.

SQ are already selling. Anecdotally they seem to be struggling selling economy seats (to/from Australia) but charging handsomely up the front of the bus due to lack of confidence around 3 of its main competitors, which might cover some of the hefty fuel bill. My bet is that they will start as planned.

I’ve read that SQ sales are doing really well, although no breakdown on fare classes.

I talk to corporate account managers at the airlines on a fairly regular basis, and in my most recent discussion with SQ (about a week ago now), they didn't seem very optimistic about the demand for WSI vs SYD. They'll probably benefit from the additional freight volume, like others, but it sounded like ongoing commitment might be contingent on the NSW Gov incentives

Maybe they are not across the first release of 24000 seats have mostly sold out reportedly?

Maybe not, and possibly just an individual concern as well.

Looking at EF just now out of curiosity, there is J & Y saver fares in plentiful supply for all dates beyond the first 2-3 days, which is largely going to be the media, bloggers & milestoners getting it out of their system.

Time will tell, I suppose!

HIGH FLYERS: Leaked planning documents have revealed a bold $3 billion proposal for a new floating international airport off Bondi Beach.

Officials say the Bondi Offshore Airport would ensure eastern suburbs residents can travel internationally without “exposing themselves to unnecessary socioeconomic diversity.”

Plans seen by DBT show the proposed airport would be built only 100 metres from the beach, with an access bridge connected to a redeveloped road near Icebergs.

According to the documents, the airport will include direct flights to Euro summer hotspots including Paris, Milan and the Amalfi Coast.

“This is long overdue,” said one Bronte woman. “I hope it’s ready for my Saint-Tropez trip next July.”

“I’m not willing to go to Mascot or Badgerys Creek just to get to France.”

Planners say the terminal will feature valet parking, a Mecca Cosmetica, three Pilates studios and a separate customs queue for people with more than 50-thousand Instagram followers.

Construction is expected to begin pending environmental approval, with planners insisting the runway will not interfere with Icebergs sunrise content.

I think the runway might need to be a bit longer, thereby killing the whole (imaginary) plan.

I mean you could tell this was a fake from this very first line, regardless of how realistic the rest of the proposal was or wasn't No infrastructure gets built for $3b in Australia these days. :p
