Qatar launches WSI in December 2027

QR to start WSI 3 weekly from 15 Dec *2027* then ramping up to daily, reported on breakfast TV this morning.

The LinkedIn post also provides this:
Operating three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, flights will leverage WSI's 24/7 operations with arrivals at 11:45pm and departures at 4:10pm.

I wonder if they have the times the wrong way around?

Will the planes have Q Suites though or are they going to do what SQ and QF are doing and use smaller planes 🫠

Edit: SMH says they're flying the 777 300ER. Yay, Q Suites!

Q Suite may be available as it is operated by B777-300ER, and also it will have a late arrival time of 11.30pm.

3 days per week, ramping up to daily in 2028.

Taking off at a similar time to VA1. Good option for those out west with a direct connection to Europe in that early morning bank of flights from Doha

I think that means the plane is stationed in WSI for quite a long time.

That'd be interesting - VA codesharing on NZ from WSI to AKL, competing with QR.
Quite. Although I was merely speculating where they could get to with say a 1am dep from WSI to somewhere that’s presumably curfew free for a “sparrows” arrival and then turnaround. AKL probably works. Maybe NAN is technically possibly?

It’ll come down to the trade off costs or parking and underutilisation v sneaking in something.

Neither Australia or Fiji would grant 5th freedom to NAN - it's already capacity restricted between AU & FJ carriers (granted this doesn't apply to WSI, but that doesn't mean they'd hand out 5th freedom). I think zero chance of it happening - FJ doesn't even like QF operating routes like BNE etc.

I don't see any other Pacific islands being in play either.

There's also the possibility they're different aircraft, not necessarily the same one turning around, could be a touchdown at WSI then onto somewhere else, meanwhile another aircraft from elsewhere stopping at WSI on it's way back to Doha.
