I haven't received the Invite in the mail? Could you post details please?

Retract - checked my personal email and it is there. Just booked the Holiday Inn, 2 minutes away. Catching up with son while in Sydney.

Just booked my outbound flight from MEL. Arriving into SYD at 8:15AM. Do you think the quickest way to get to Qantas HQ is to catch the train from Domestic to Mascot and then walk?

That or simply walk. Depends what you're carrying and if the trains are on time.

Scratch my scratching, I should be able to make it! :p

Or the 400 Bus towards Bondi Junction
(cheaper and don't have to go underground).
6min journey.

Scheduled times on Monday:
7.49, 8.09, 8.30, 8.56

The train is far more regular with approx 5min frequencies

Have fun - will be interesting to see whether the TSV spotters break the scheme first, guessing it will fly down some time Sunday??

I'm not going, but here are some maps for those who are not familiar with the area.

The actual entrance to QF HQ is along Bourke Street, basically across the road from the Holiday Inn roadway entrance. They did a bit refurb in the last year and it's quite fancy. There's even an engine (B747 I think...?) in the foyer.

If you want to walk from T3, it's approximately 20 minutes.

The 400 Bus will drive past the entrance, and turn right into Coward and the first stop is just around the corner.

The train station is further north along Bourke. I guess the 4 minutes shown on google maps doesn't allow for the minute or two to get up from the platform. If you have an Opal card, Domestic to Mascot will cost you $8.58 during peak and $7.56 off-peak. If you have to buy a ticket, use the vending machine and make sure you select the Mascot transfer option on the front panel (don't search for "Mascot station" through the station listing). It should still be less than $9 for the transfer. Obviously bus will be a lot cheaper than this price, but less frequent and subject to traffic conditions at that time of day.

Hopefully Red Roo will correct me if any of this information is misleading (particularly regarding the entrance to HQ, that is).

If you want to sneak in the back-door, just wait on the corner of Bourke and Coward and wait for QF staff to come out these doors... They seem to use it as a short-cut to the cafes across the road ;)

Street view seems fairly recent if you want to see the main entrance. It's down near the Australia Post boxes.

I'm a tad worried now as my flight gets me into SYD 15 minutes before the event starts (0900) and I doubt I'll manage to get to HQ in that amount of time. I was hoping it'd be one of the hangars closer to the terminal... I've been to a 767 event in one next door before, was a very short and easy walk :)

My understanding is that there is one way only to access this event. You may need an earlier flight or an overnight.

Thanks for this. Don't have an Opal card. Can I buy a ticket on the bus?

Got the details and very much looking forward to it. Thanks Redroo!

Which is looking bleak now due to the fact I'm on the earliest flight from OOL, earlier flights from BNE are sold out in my cabin and coming the day before from OOL is also sold out. Plus then I have to factor in accommodation.

I am weighing my options.

Virgin maybe from Brisbane?

Not in a Prepay zone so Yes - should be $2.40..

However if coming to Sydney semi-regularly worth getting an Opal card.
You can get one at Traders Convenience in the Arrivals hall at T3, or at the Domestic Station.
Card is free but min topup $10 - so basically paying $10 for a card with $10 credit.

To see the LIVE path of the bus.
Download the TripView Lite App
and add the 400 bus and the airport to mascot stops.

Thank you for that! Is it just quicker and easier to walk? Bus can be late etc.. What would you do? Bus/train or walk?

I'd be getting the train. It's so easy and convenient, though a little more expensive. Between 8am and 9am, there's quite a few trains heading through. At Domestic, get on the carriages in the middle of the train (even though it's the most crowded) as that gets you off at the stairs at Mascot.

Yssy board contains a post with some predicted details on the livery from a first hand observor.

I won't post a link in case people want to keep the surprise, but it's a pretty easy Google
