I hope those who are going have a great time and that the day is a huge success. :D

Unfortunately I am not available on the day so could not even contemplate an entry. :( :(

Red Roo any update on the proceedings for the day? Need to book flight from MEL!

I haven't seen the invitation yet but the last RetroRoo event was from QF HQ at Coward St Mascot. Buses took us airside to the hangar.

I'm a tad worried now as my flight gets me into SYD 15 minutes before the event starts (0900) and I doubt I'll manage to get to HQ in that amount of time. I was hoping it'd be one of the hangars closer to the terminal... I've been to a 767 event in one next door before, was a very short and easy walk :)

As per the OP:

We’re holding a hangar event in Sydney for Qantas employees and media on our 95[SUP]th[/SUP] birthday, Monday 16 November 2015 from 9-11am to welcome “Retro Roo II” to the family.

It's very close to the terminal. 15 minutes is cutting it very fine though.
At the last event we were "checked-in" at HQ so that we could go directly airside on the buses to Hangar 96. I don't think anyone got there via the airport though but I could be wrong?

Hey Princess Fiona, where exactly is Qantas HQ then? Will I need to get a taxi from the airport to get me there so I can get back to the airport?
No - seems like a nice 15 minute walk from the Hotel. All good.

It's on Bourke and Coward Streets. I don't have my invitation yet so it may be different from the last event in Hangar 96.
If it's the same as last time the pick up area was on the forecourt at Bourke St

Yes, I'm waiting on details before booking my flight up too!

Curious to know how many are coming. Seems like 5 or so? Plus - Princess Fiona's source so maybe 10.

I hope Barbie and Ken put in an appearance. I had one of the original Barbies but mum threw it away when I left home. :(

Birthday cake?

There were 5 prize winners from my own Facebook group and I think 5 from the other one.
My invite is separate from the competitions.
I'd say it will be a huge event !!
Very much looking forward to it. The frequent flying community is certainly nicely represented from here :)
If the Charity flight on 31st is anything to go by I'd say there will a few big surprises for us and photo opportunities galore !!!

I am aware of the 9-11 am timings but where do we have to present ourselves and at what time etc would be useful to know. For example if I book a flight that arrives into SYD at 8:25AM is that enough time to make it to wherever the event is being held?

Also what time will we be able to get back to the airport after the event to ensure enough time to depart from SYD...

There isn't a lot of choice flying back to Adelaide. Decided to take an early afternoon flight and chill out in the lounge. Flying in? Decided on the night before flight.

I'll be sure to email you the details as soon as they're made available to me, however the event is being held in Hangar 96. :)

Is there any possible way to get straight from Hangar 96 to T3?

Hangar 96 is the hangar next to Gate 1 at SYD T3.

To get there from SYD T3, you simply exit the terminal and walk down the road as if you were walking to Mascot, just after the coach pickup you take a left down Fifth street, and there it is.

That's not to say this will be the entry point, I don't know that for sure, but I know I have been in this hangar in the past for an event and I entered via this route.

Scratch what I said above. Having now received the invite and considering the fact I'll need to get to HQ I may be giving this a miss. Currently trying to work out how I can change my flights without incurring much change fees, but availability even the day before is low.

Just booked my outbound flight from MEL. Arriving into SYD at 8:15AM. Do you think the quickest way to get to Qantas HQ is to catch the train from Domestic to Mascot and then walk?
