Qantas' first 787 is now listed on the production schedule over at All Things 787:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...FCRaT-iqgo/pub?single=true&gid=19&output=html

Production number 615 to be assembled in Everett with a (very tentative) ETA of the 27th September 2017.

And now the 2nd is listed. Production number 641, assembled in Everett. ETA 1/12/17.

You'd imagine that once the 2nd frame is delivered and introduced into the fleet then international services would begin. Likely just domestic flights when they only have one in service.

Having flown long haul 787 Qatar in 3-3-3, I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. Not only are the seats tiny, but the aisles are so narrow anyone on an aisle (even skinny people) are constantly getting bumped by toilet visitors and crew. There is simply not enough aisle room on a 787 in 3-3-3 let alone the squishy seats.

I will be avoiding QF 787 Y at all costs when flying long haul - not getting my $$$ sorry.

Poor choice QF.

I hate the 787 and will do my best to avoid it as well. Those windows are the worst!

If they use it for SYD-SFO I will have to use it at least sometimes.

Like many I am not a fan of the configuration of 3-3-3 of the 787 of any airline, and will avoid, no matter whose name is on the tail. The thought of a flight like Perth to London non stop on one of those torture chambers makes me cringe.

The 787 is as bad as the 737 which I also avoid as much as practical.

This is all very interesting. I flew JQ in *class last year to DPS, and found it ok. Food and service quite nice too. Not an overwhelming experience, but I suspect way better than the back of the aircraft.
Flying HKG - HEL in April 2017, in the A350( in J) so will be inter seed to compare the experience of an earlier post who flew in whY.
I agree with some of the "Senior Citizens" here. I have done all the "row 179" flying I'm going to do. It's (long haul) J for me from now on. Short haul domestic, I can suck it up.

Blame the 3-3-3 Y 787 seating on UA, ET, AI, LA and QR. The 787 was designed for 8 across. The first two carriers to get them, NH and JL, fitted them with 8 across. Every other carrier that has gotten them since has fitted with 9 across with NH reconfiging theirs to match because it was "industry standard". JL now uses 8 across as a selling point.

The windows used to have problems and didn't go dark enough. That issue has been fixed. The problem with the windows now is that they can be centrally controlled by the cabin crew who can also lock the settings and prevent pax from changing the tinting.

Airbus were much smarter with their cabin width on the A350 making 9 standard but not quite enough room for 10. The A330/350/380 all better than Boeings

Having flown them in Y on a couple of carriers I believe the 787 should be called "Bin-Liner", cos it sure isn't a dream.

Might try it in J but never again in Y

My sentiments are similar. Air New Zealand B787 Perth/Auckland in economy was unpleasant. Auckland/Perth in Premium Economy was excellent.

I am also one of those people that think the A380 is quieter in Y than the B787. I haven't tried any of the premium cabins on the A380 yet.

The A380 is much quieter than 787... so is tbe A350.
A380 is in a league of its own.

I haven't noted any discernible difference in volume between the 787 and 777 after several flights seated forward of the engines

True. Except AirAsia X managed to squeeze 9 abreast on the A330. Are they the only ones with that configuration? You couldn't pay me to sit in their economy cabin!

No they aren't the only ones. I'm fairly sure both Cebu and PR have 9 across as a start.

I have never been on a B787 but it seems like lots of people dislike the 3-3-3 config in Y.

By my research the fuselage of the A330 is 5.28m vs B787 at 5.49m. So my question is why do people find the A330 more comfortable when the B787 is wider?

Because A330 is 2-4-2 configuration not 3-3-3 so more room per seat
