I have had no troubles adjusting to the change, it just means I have to open AFF to see the content. An extra click doesn't give me cause for concern, and arguably, I probably do a lot more clicks daily on AFF than most others already! ;)

So in fact the new change is completely irrelevant to you. But it is very important to the rest of us. Seeing the preview is one of the most useful things of the new software.

The new software is a forum, not an email. Sure, it’s useful to see a preview but the main part of the upgrade is the website, not notifications you receive from it.

Thanks for the condescension. :) Yes we all know that. But as I have been saying one of the major new features for the users was the email preview. While it makes no difference to you since you read most of the posts anyway it should be returned for the rest of us plebs to make using AFF more enjoyable.

I've been censored twice now. All I'm asking is can we ask the other AFFers what they think on this thread's topic?. That's not off topic is it, really?

Ok, I give up trying to find out how to ask the others what they think.

I have expressed my view already. I would like the preview to return.

The issue is that it is likely that the only people who have visited this thread are those who would like the preview back. All those who either don't care or don't want it won't post in this thread.

I guess @Admin could arrange a poll, but not everybody would take part.

The possible solution is to fire out an educational mailshot to all members before switching the preview back on and then monitoring support issues.

Thanks, a poll, that was the word I was probably looking for.

AFF has over 40,000 members. Not including staff, only 10 have replied in this thread.

I think the most members I’ve ever seen vote in a poll on AFF was 50. Hardly a representative view.

I'm pretty sure I said that, which is why I suggested a mailshot.

Those 50 probably accounted for a disproportionate share of participation, though.

Yes but we are the ones that matter and give you feedback. We should be listened to, not censored, for our views.

None of us were given a choice when admin unilaterally removed the preview. Bring back the previews then run a thread to see who is unsatisfied rather then complain about your more active members. Surely our comments should carry weight.

How many have posted comments NOT in favour of the preview? I’ve not seen one!

Some posts which had been deleted have been reinstated. However, please note that we do not permit moderation to be discussed publicly on AFF. If need be you can contact me directly by sending me a message.

Regarding the question about surveying member about AFF functionality - this is something we haven't done in the past. AFF is a diverse community and it is impossible to please everyone all the time. Your points about the notification emails have been noted.

Thanks Admin. It restores continuity and sanity to this discussion.:)

From what I see, the changes have not improved the email notifications. I still do not get notified for all the threads to which I have subscribed.

Given one rule for software is never to remove a function that users have been using and enjoying (unless you are dismissive of user feedback like Apple or Microsoft), could you please explain why we cannot have the previews back?

Is there more to this than what we have seen told?

Perhaps restore them, explain to users how to monitor subscribed threads, and perhaps do a poll of users to see if they want previews or not?

There has been an unfortunate side effect to the deletion of the preview in the email notifications.

I used to get private message email notifications which had the full message (minus the images) in the body of the email. I liked having an email record of the conversation which acted as a back up which I could control if something happened to my account or the private messages held in my account. This was also my back up when I had to delete private messages due to the lack of space in my private message/conversation section. I like keeping track of private messages with members.

Now that the post texts have been removed, the copy of the conversations in private messages has also been removed. I went back and checked the conversation emails since the changes and found the full text from the messages in the notification emails. I got a private message email today which showed who had sent me a message but no text from the actual message.
