From Travel Today
Longhaul low cost start-up Viva Macau was scrambling to get 200 passengers booked on its inaugural flight seats on Cathay Pacific and Qantas today after it failed to secure regulatory approval on time.
It is not yet clear what approval is missing, but an airline spokeswomen told Travel Today that the 11:45 flight from Sydney tomorrow could not take off “due to regulatory issues”. Around 200 fare-paying passengers were scheduled to fly to the Chinese city, along with media representatives and company employees. The carrier is now seeking to endorse tickets on other carriers flying to and from the region, including neighbouring Hong Kong.
The spokeswoman said no clear timetable for the launch has been finalised yet, adding that more information would be released later today.
