Virgin Money 2 for 1 Offer and SC's

The last time I made one of these bookings was about two months ago. So given the outages over the past month haven't resulted in any improvements to the site (from the customer's end at least) I can only conclude they've been spending time inserting bugs into the few parts of the site that do work, in order to give members a consistent experience in all their interactions with Velocity :D.

I'm cool with that if it results in bonuses. Bring on the bugs. ;)

Lets delete all these posts and no one say anything.

Does this 2 for 1 offer apply to business seats? From the T and Cs:
1. The offer is available to Primary Virgin Flyer Credit Card holders and Virgin High Flyer Credit Card holders for direct and formal connection Virgin Australia Australian domestic flights sold in Saver, Flexi, and Premium fare classes subject to paragraph 4. It is not available on sale fares.

I assume the Premium Fare classes include business class seats not just premium economy? Am I assuming correctly?

Am thinking of doing a SC run Syd to Cbr for 2 with my +1s pts and SCs pooling into my account...

You do indeed assume correctly. I've done it a couple of times.

This is probably only vaguely related to the topic on hand, but I'll hijack this topic none the less... I was considering picking up one of these (well, 2, one of my wife as well), and was wondering how the 2 for 1 deals roll over. By that I mean you get 4 per year, does that mean you have 4 per year of the anniverssery date of you getting the card? Or do they roll over one year from when you use them?

For example, which of these are more right?

  • I get the card in September. I have until september next year to use my 4 2-4-1's, even if for some reason I use them all in say June-August
or

  • I get the card in September. I book the first 2-4-1 in June next year, therefore I can't use that 2-4-1 until June the following year

I would hazard it is the first, but just checking. I also gather they are deducted on the date of booking, not on flying date?

The first is correct (although I am not sure what the second is about). They are deducted pretty much immediately when you book.

Yeah never mind me, probably just confusing myself to be honest :p Thanks for confirming anyway!

I didn't understand the second point either hahaha.

You get given 4 when you sign up, and 4 more on each anniversary. You have 12 months to make a booking when you are given them (dont have to fly within that 12 months - i.e. if you get it in Sept, you can then book in May and fly in December). I'm pretty sure they don't roll over.

They're easily the best feature of this card - ive saved many hundreds of dollars. Think about how to best use them to max the savings - 2-4-1 A330 flex fares with half price points upgrades to J comes to mind!!

Well using the 2 for 1 deal to buy a spare seat in my name really stuffed up the system. Could not check in online, it kept telling me there were 2 people on the booking (well der!). Checked in at the airport, premium lounge entry desk, was told they put the wrong code in for a spare seat. Then issued with one BP and was assured this is standard practice for these seats. Only half the points have posted and I have to ring to do a missing points claim. :(

Ok just got off the dog and bone chasing this up. Can anyone positively confirm that the second seat on these 2 for 1 tickets get status credits?

Phone reps told me the second seat only earns points not SC. It is only 10 SC that I don't really need but just a bit annoying. They also told me the 2 for 1s must have 2 different people, as such I should even get points but they'll do me a favour and honour the points just this once. I'd be interested in experiences if anyone else has used one of these for a spare seat. But at this stage I'd recommend against doing this in order to get SC and to even get points will require a phone call.

The second seat definitely earns full SC's IME, the points earn is split between the 2 seats and equates to roughly one full fare

On an unrelated note Mrs 777, .777 and I are in the lounge about to use our 2for1s and my comp plat upgrades to go to Darwin for a long weekend. As I have a couple of days work up there and its paid for it's pretty good value for a J family holiday.

Hey, I've made the same booking (booked a spare seat instead of another passenger) and did a lot of questioning and research on the experiences of other frequent fliers when I did this.
I confirmed with the booking agent AND her superior that there wouldn't be any issues and that it wasn't prohibited within the T&C's. I also then confirmed with Velocity that both seats would receive FULL status credits. I also double checked with both operators that the phone calls were being recorded and I could refer back to them later if need be.
Time will tell, I'm off on my trip in 2 weeks today, but go hard on them - quote the terms and conditions of the offer where it says NOTHING about a comfort seat being against the rules etc. Go hard with the velocity team - use your status, double check the call is being recorded.
It's not against their rules because no where are there rules against it :)
Don't take no for an answer because it can be done!!

T&C's state "Two Guests must be booked to travel together at all times in order to be eligible for the offer. This means that the Itinerary cannot be split, and all flight changes must be made for both Guests"
This appears to be open to interpretation by Virgin staff probably explains no one can nail down a specific answer

Yeah that's the one issue. I could (and do) argue there were 2 guests and both of them were me. ;) This is probably supported by them charging me 2 CC fees, which are charged per guest. Looks like I'll need a few phone calls.

So as long you use the 'free' seat on the same booking then you are fine - i.e. "Mr Bullerdude" and "Mr Spare Seat Bullerdude" - because this would fulfill the criteria of both passengers flying at the same time, even if one is a virtual passenger.

For reference, I booked this exact situation last week in J.

Well, the points and SC came through overnight for the second seat. I guess the phone agent didn't know how to only add points or something.
