Pretty simple, hire as good a spin doctor for DJ that you are for Qantas,pauly7.

Thanks I think?! Didn't realise having an opinion or preference made me a spin doctor.

Actually I think star alliance and/or a domestic J (or DJ version of Starclass) would be a better start IMHO.

Surely a government bank rolled airline like Emirates or Singapore must be casting the ruler about... although I guess even governments are in trouble atm!

How about an AFF consortium to buy DJ?:p;) What would your first decision be hahah.
The problem for Emirates is the government of Dubai is itself seeking to be bankrolled.Emirates may end up with Sir Richard itself!

There is just a remarkable congruence between many of your opinions and the stock standard spin from the Qf Group PR machine.

Of course coincidence in these things is naturally possible. ;)

I vote for Platy :!:

yes i agree - second that!! i think he is a bit scorned by the qf group changing their fnq presence he's perfect to promote virgin blue!

i second nominate nigeloz for his virgin blue spin doctor role, so many posts in so little time - so efficient and supportive .... ;)

Actually I fly QF much more than I do DJ,it's just so happens that my glasses (Yes I do wear them) aren't so tinted that I can't see the flaws in the way Qantas is operating, and as distinct to platy I am willing to give Mr Joyce a fair crack at fixing the problems.(hope I'm not being unfair there platy)
I also think that DJ offers a good product at a reasonable price and I support them in their role, which is primarily to offer competition to QF controlled airlines, the Australian aviation market would be a lot poorer if Virgin Blue wasn't around.

Absolutely :!:

Imagine (oh the horror !) if QF had no competitors, you could probably forget a frequent flyer scheme because it would be "well fly with us or take the bus '!

Don't have to imagine ... the QP catering was decidedly dismal 2002-2003 ...

agree, although I will say that DJ's price creep towards QF levels has not been matched with a corresponding product improval so they are more like an 'acceptable' product at an 'ok price' for me:p

but yes without virgin qf wouldn't be forced into improving their service either!

Last weekend mrsdrron finally threw out her life member card for golden wings.
She probably could have sold it on ebay, some people collect allsorts of apparently useless things.
I sold a very old 5¼ inch floppy drive for $20.00 just last week.

Well I guess when you need some cash there are various ways you can go about getting some and if it keeps them going then it seems a prudent move to me.
I find it interesting though that the media are happy to use the term "struggling" to describe DJ,the last time I checked they were still running flights as normal, they may be suffering financially due to the economic downturn but many of the worlds airlines are doing it tough and there isn't daily stories about them in the press.

Maybe not in the Aussie press. But I expect many media sources around the world are regularly reporting about the financial woes of their struggling local airlines.

Look at a Dallas news paper and it will regularly have stories on AA's woes. Look at a Chicago media course and they will regularly have stories of UA's struggles. So I am not surprised to see regular reports on QF, DJ, VA, TT in the Aussie media. And that is ok by me, so long as its the reporting is accurate and not sensationalist.

You make some very valid points there,NM,and in hindsight perhaps I should have said aussie press, but it does just seem to me that over the last few weeks there have been the stories about Rex saying DJ was vulnerable to take over, and last week was the "shock horror Virgin Blue makes a loss" type of story, and I just don't see it as being in the interests of the airline or the public .
Nobody, least of all me,denies that DJ is suffering financially and it's share price has also suffered, but Tiger have a few of their planes parked at the moment and they also lost money last year (albeit a fair bit less than DJ).
so where are the daily stories about them?
Just my two cents worth, thanks for your views.

Yes, I agree somewhat with you. However, keep in mind that the DJ loss stories were around the time of the financial reporting by the company, which is required for a public company in Australia. I am not sure of TT's status regarding company reporting requirements in Australia so perhaps there is less information coming from the company in the form of financial reporting to the markets (ASX etc) and associated media releases from the company.

I expect the reporting of the financial situation of airlines, while not positive marketing for them (or as you say "being in the interests of the airline or the public"), it is likely to be in the interest of current and potential shareholders, providing its accurate and not sensationalist. In Australia, there is legal responsibility for public companies to accurately publicly report their financial situation. They will try to put a positive spin on the situation via a media/press release, which is going to provide fodder for the reporters. So I am not sure I can lay blame on the media for reporting what has been provided to them in media releases from the companies, so long as the reports are accurate and not sensationalist.
