Its been that way with PE for some time, DJ price their connections at the same level as a direct flight in most cases.Just been flicking thru the VA website, and some interesting fares have come up : ie : MEL-DRW $749 in J Direct and via PER or BNE. MEL-PER-DRW ends up $550 cheaper than just MEL-PER.
Hadn't realised that thanks.
Whats the reasoning behind the big difference in MEL-OOL and MEL-BNE J Fares? (BNE is $884 and OOL is $505)

Hayden, althought the DPS route is marketed as a Pac Blue route, it is infact operated by Virgin Australia. Retrofitted aircraft have started to cycle through the DPS route recently.

I'm hoping that this is true. But who knows, perhaps he is only referring to ex Virgin Blue aircraft and not Pacific Blue?
Obviously it wouldn't work for the return, but it's still saved you a bucket of money!
