Just been flicking thru the VA website, and some interesting fares have come up :

ie : MEL-DRW $749 in J Direct and via PER or BNE.

MEL-PER-DRW ends up $550 cheaper than just MEL-PER.

Its been that way with PE for some time, DJ price their connections at the same level as a direct flight in most cases.

Hadn't realised that thanks.

Whats the reasoning behind the big difference in MEL-OOL and MEL-BNE J Fares? (BNE is $884 and OOL is $505)

No complaints from me about how much cheaper OOL fares are. :D

I always get a kick out of the fact OOL-SYD-MEL is cheaper in Premium/J than SYD-MEL on it's own.

Wait till they get a lounge in OOL

Hayden, althought the DPS route is marketed as a Pac Blue route, it is infact operated by Virgin Australia. Retrofitted aircraft have started to cycle through the DPS route recently.

So if you were flying MEL-PER you would be better off booking MEL-PER-DRW and just fail to board the second flight! (Hand luggage only of course)

Obviously it wouldn't work for the return, but it's still saved you a bucket of money!

I'm hoping that this is true. But who knows, perhaps he is only referring to ex Virgin Blue aircraft and not Pacific Blue?

I took this photo last week in DPS as evidence that they have started flying them there! Actually saw another BSI aircraft there the day after as well.

I unfortunately had to share a cabin with the great unwashed on JQ ... never again. I think next time I'll fly SQ via SIN to get there ... and that way I can get a Silk air flight straight to Lombok and avoid DPS altogether.

Thanks guys... my mind is at ease :) I shall write a TR, but it's not until after Xmas, before NYE.

On the way back book PER-MEL-AKL in J and save $112, making a saving of $662 on a J class MEL-PER return.
