Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA274 CBR-MEL is now cancelled. Guests asked to collect their bags from the arrivals carousal. Not a good day for VA :(
 
Update to this at 1555

Guests have now been asked to go to check-in as this flight is cancelled due to an IT outage.

Looking at CBR departures today:
  • VA625 Scheduled: 0605 Departed: 0700
  • VA252 Scheduled: 0645 Departed: 1015
  • VA629 Scheduled: 0705 Departed: 0740
  • VA1209 Scheduled: 0715 Departed: 1030
  • VA637 Scheduled: 0905 Departed: 0945
Then for flights yet to depart:
  • VA1217 Scheduled: 1220 Estimated: 1605
  • VA268 Scheduled: 1415 Estimated: 1630
  • VA653 Scheduled: 1520 Estimated: 1620
Delay message for 268 and 653 is showing as: 'Our systems have let us down today. Our tech team is onto it and we are hoping to have you on your way as soon as possible.'

I'm unable to say which ... I heard from airport security folks that the IT issues were there since morning, pax were unable to check in to flights and VA ground staff were manually processing pax and that was causing delays.

Then when the OOL flight was cancelled, VA staff told that there is an IT issue.
 
Update to this.

At 1523, replacement Captain and FA arrived with their gear at Gate 10. They were were warmly welcomed by the pax at Gate 10. There were "whooing", "clapping", "yelling heyyyy" for the replacement Captain & his FA. 🤣:cool::cool: Pax were genuinely happy to see them. Pax at the shops near Gate 10 also joined in the jeering :D Although not travelling today (sadly), I joined in the mini-celebrations and I clapped too ;)

At 1525, the previous Captain & FA exited the aircraft and Gate 10. There were no jeering for them sadly! :( Poor things :(

Apparently the IT issues since this AM with CBR airport IT (assume with Swisssport) have affected VA, Rex and JQ.
Looks like the IT issues still haven't been rectified.

This morning's CBR departures are delayed citing systems being down or the airport experiencing some 'challenges.'
 
JQ did have delays yesterday. They were handing out vouchers to delayed pax.

I’ll be at CBR today as well. Will ask around … the security folks are usually the first to hear about things …

Only minor issues at VA today. There isn't as big a queue anywhere near the VA counters as yesterday. Only 2 VA flights delayed so far - VA1217 & VA274.
 
VA455 returned to Brisbane after a cabin pressure issue last night. Aircraft involved was a wet-leased Airnorth E190 (VH-UYR)

You must be joking. Qantas has had their fair share of pressurisation issues over the years.
Well this was the first incidence of any national carrier that I've heard about since LATAM. Others being UNITED but that did not occur in Australian territory (at least I do not think so)

Well they did need to "divert" "back" to the "original point of takeoff" with the implication that there would be delays and hundreds of pissed off customers and hotel/meal vouchers (not to mention a bad track record). If anything warrants diverting back to the airport it must be serious enough warrant diverting back to the airport.

According to the article:

I felt bad for the financial department amount of hotel vouchers and meal vouchers they have to give to the passengers. Never mind probably comes out of our airfare anyways. Edit: Probably able to pay for SEVERAL hotel vouchers since it is to Darwin (which is why I have never been to Perth or Darwin even though it's always been on my bucketlist places to travel to).

If I had to guess you probably only follow the mainstream 7/9 news channels and are only seeing these stories because they pick them up. Often these channels try to create stories out of nothing (as in flights turn back all the time for a variety of reasons but all of a sudden it’s breaking news) or they overhype incidents because it’s a slow news day.

This is a cost of doing business and is baked into the cost of running an airline. They know things like these will happen once every so often so obviously price things accordingly. This is no different to a supermarket having to throw away expired milk or rotten fruit. It’s a cost of doing business and is baked into the cost of items you buy.

If you’re concerned about not visiting Darwin because of a single flight delay/cancellation then it’s worth noting that VAs evening flight has had issues once in the last few months.
