The usual chicken sausage with scrambled egg, potato and beans, or pancakes with Mascarpone cream and strawberries. Only difference from last time I had it was the Lindt chocolate bunny (which the kids behind me in Row 3 also got). Very light loading with 3/8 seats

They like to add seasonal chocolates onto it due to easter/Xmas etc. non holiday is bare minimal.

Gate Gourmet I think mostly with some Perth crowd doing inter WA flights I believe. Those chicken sausages () on VA biz flights is the same dross served up for breakfast at least at PER.

There's a lot of sausages served both in lounges and on board these days are made from meats aside from pork.

An enjoyable and on-time flight to Sydney.

Melbourne lounge was pretty busy but given how large it is, we had no trouble finding a seat. There was plenty of food on offer including the excellent chocolate brownies - strangely there seemed to be a lot of flies hanging around the hot food though which wasn't great...



Boarding commenced on time and was pretty efficient - CM allowed most of the passengers to board before bringing around PDBs about twenty minutes after boarding had commenced. Nice generous pour of sparkling wine for me and my travelling companion.



Once in the air orders for dinner were taken, our orders in 2DF were taken first followed by 2AC, 1DF, 1AC. Options were stir fried beef in black bean sauce with seasoned rice and bok choy or vegetable ragout cottage pie with roast vegetables. I've had both options before (the next menu refresh musn't be too far off!) and went with the beef this time. Both options were good although the cottage pie is probably the better one of the two.





Service was exactly by the book which to be honest is what you'd want on a short flight like this, our CM was friendly, efficient and attentive.

Same for us when passing through in Feb. I was serving myself when someone complained, to be met with a blank look and shrug.

Did CBR-MEL on Friday afternoon and back on Saturday afternoon. The two meal choices were the same in both directions: cold tortellini with cheese or a risoni salad. Both with optional chicken slices.

Both quite similar but both decent.

VA212 ADL-MEL at 08:40. Breakfast options were scrambled eggs with bacon and potato wedges or French toast. Went with the eggs:

Both breakfast options were a quiche.
One “breakfast quiche” either chorizo, and a vegetarian quiche.

My breakfast quiche was fine but the options were too similar. Several passengers don’t like quiche or were allergic to eggs.

Cold tortellini? Sounds a bit odd.

I guess that's a take on a pasta salad.

I'm impressed by how smooth the new T2 security is, it took less than ten minutes from tapping out of the train station and going through bag drop and security to having a beer in hand in the lounge! Lounge was busy but no issues in finding a seat especially since they had the upstairs section open.



Boarding commenced on time and PDBs were offered.



Once in the air orders for dinner were taken in the traditional 1AC, 1DF, 2AC, 2DF. 1F didn't order and 2D was asleep, so by the time she got to me in 2F the CM checked and still had both options to offer. Dinner options were either chicken tenders with Japanese curry sauce, broccoli and rice, or tomato and roast vegetable pasta with optional chicken. I chose the curry chicken with a shiraz and sparkling water to drink.



It was a good meal with a substantial amount of protein, the curry sauce was flavourful and my only suggestion would be to have a bit more of it. The CM remained present throughout the meal service and after, bringing around the wine bottles for top-ups even before we had emptied the glass!

We touched down about 15 minutes early which was fantastic (and a huge contrast to the return journey on QF) with the only disappointment being an exceedingly long wait at the baggage carousel. Really should have just carried on my bag but lesson learned for next time!

It's been a little while since my last VA J flight, but from the photos posted it appears that a side plate is no longer provided for the cheese and crackers. Not a major issue I suppose, but just another subtle degradation of the J experience. I like to remove the cheese and cracker from the plastic and put them on the plate (I also remember when that was how they were served). I'm pragmatic enough to realise that it is a cost saving which doesn't materially affect the meal.
