Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

We flew Virgin Biz yesterday on a lunchtime flight, and to kill the boredom on the 2 hour flight, as there is no Wi-Fi anymore to save a few bucks, and no in-flight magazine, and no newspapers, resorted to reading the wording on the Business Class "meal" i.e. the infamous cardboard snack box.

"Made In The UK". Sad that Virgin cannot be bothered sourcing simple things like throw away cardboard boxes in this country, and keep some Australians in a job.

I am very keen to always buy Australian products if easily sourced. Savvy businesses should be too. The Feds gave them $ BILLIONS of lifeline this month to subsidise fares to keep tourism alive, and Virgin buy throw away boxes made in the UK. DUMB.

Oh well, economy pax do not even get their free cookie anymore, so life moves on!

Flying VA in J this Thursday morning, you guys reckon I'll get a proper breakfast?

Not a big deal if I don't, but I'll need to hit the road after the flight, so if it's a snack box I'll have to arrive early to have a proper breakfast at the lounge.

You get to be a breakky Guinea Pig ... :)

Arrive early anyway and have at least one and possibly two breakfasts ... 💡

A bird in the hand...
I’d eat in the lounge, then anything offered onboard is a bonus.

I was hoping for something different but alas, the same uninspiring random selection of things as last week. At least this week I don’t have to open them to know that they’re not worth the calories (although I did snaffle the tiny square of dark chocolate). Bring on tomorrow!91136C18-92F6-4C47-968F-7804D333B972.jpeg

Confirmation of 25 March for new F&B offering. This email just sent to me for a flight coming up in May.

You'll be SHOCKED when you find out where VA planes are made then.

I'm a big fan of those Jax snacks though. I've asked for extra of those bfore.

PER - MEL

This box looks even smaller than the other snack boxes posted here when it's a 3.5 hour flight. Bottle of water was handed out before boarding. After the snack box one of the FAs laid out all the other available choices of snacks on a tray and offered more around the cabin as well as anytime I exited the bathroom. She was also really good at refilling drinks.

That's really disappointing for PER-MEL., oh well, at least there will be a new menu out tomorrow. Hopefully the food in J is good. At least J in VA has been really cheap recently.

To be honest, almost all of my flights are early morning (when I just want to have a solid brekky - i.e. sausage + eggs...etc.) or late night (after I've already had dinner), so I'm just hoping for a solid breakfast more than anything.

Have a quick hop out of MEL tomorrow morning, so I'll remember to take some pictures for you lovely folk.

Oh I thought you meant the food on board is unlikely to feed any bird you might have on hand 😂

It is good to see actually, why they would import those..... (obviously to save money if they could)

The economy menu doesn't inspire much, but it doesn't need to. It's hardly a strong revenue stream, and most folks will grab a meal before or after a flight if they're hungry. Staying away from perishables will help with cost control.

The business menu is serviceable, and ensures that they're providing value and convenience to those pax. Being a set/seasonal menu, what I would like to see is the ability to pre-select your meal preference before boarding (surely that would make catering more efficient too?). I always found it frustrating when I paid for a J flight and another pax took the last of the meal I wanted and they'd offer me their staff salad as a backup.
