6.15am departure

The only thing offered for breakfast was muesli with milk and a warm muffin.

It was fine, but not that exciting. I would have preferred a hot option but apparently the first flights for the day out of non-catered ports (including Canberra) don’t get hot food.

Great cabin manager though.

In VA, from what I saw on this thread, for vego, the mains options are the Halloumi or cauli salad or gnocchi with broccolini ...

I really wish airlines did a veg burger or a falafel burger or wrap for once .. I'd pay to fly that service .. veg burger with chips ... like the ones you get in Grill'd or some cafe place with a veggie burger ...
Agree though, unfortunately, I think they only have about two choices per flight and plan their menus around versatility and popularity.

EG: vego salads or similar are likely more versatile to offer to people that want a light/healthy meal vs a meat burger whereas a vego burger and chips probably wouldn't be too popular as a main meal offering paired with, say, a chicken wrap as the other option.

Fair points

Re : salads or similar - I understand your point ... I would do the same thing .. I mostly eat at the lounge .. even if I didn't for short flights (CBR-MEL, OOL-SYD etc), I'd be happy with a salad .. because I don't want to eat anything heavy ... might have to hit the ground running for the next meeting ... can't eat burger & chips, washed down with a lager or two and risk getting soporific :p

On a lighter note, next time, I will bring my own falafel wrap ... with raw onions, extra garlic & chilli sauce, perhaps :p storm the J cabin with a strong hit of onion, garlic & chilli :p

OOL - MEL on Sunday. Lunchtime meal was Haloumi Salad or the Turkey Melt. I try avoid the cheesy mess when it is on offer but I was quite surprised. Filling if you're hungry but very tasty as a snack. Pretty good menu item now that I've tried it.

It might not look the best but all reports are it's one of the tastier options. I've got two J lunchtime flights coming up and wouldn't mind having this as one of the options.

VA784 CNS-BNE 2pm departure

Meal choices were a tandoori chicken burger on a brioche bun or a cauliflower & quinoa salad. I had the burger which was tasty.

Had this on a ADL-MEL lunch flight last week. Was pretty good but didn't get the salad on the burger which was a bit weird.

On the following MEL-HOB was offered two salads- the haloumi or caesar. Went caesar which was pretty good. LST-MEL a few days later, was again offered two salad options - the couscous option but went with the prosciutto which wasn't bad. MEL-ADL flight was canned with VA so went QF and had the chicken pie which was brilliant. Was hoping to get the turkey melt or the lamb pie on one of the VA flights but no die this time.

VA1544 ADL-LST 0730 departure

Breakfast options were the smashed avo and feta on sourdough or the ham and egg burger. Both options accompanied with a pastry.
Both wife and myself had the smashed avo and it was excellent and tasted fresh. Pastry was nice and was offered extra pastries afterwards. 7 of 8 in J class and 4 had the same option as us and 2 had the burger. Accompanied by a nice Tatachilla Pinot Grigio. A group of 4 elderly were seated in J aswell and they weren’t aware alcohol was served so early and on seeing us order they also went for the Pinot Grigio. Staff kept it coming and we polished off 3 bottles between the 6 of us on the shortish flight.
All in all a excellent flight and great to have direct flights to LST. At just on $300 each for J you can’t go wrong

BNE-CNS 11:20am departure today.

Offered the tandoori chicken burger or the roast pumpkin, cauliflower and quinoa salad. I had the burger and my mum had the snack basket as neither option appealed.

I had the Tatachilla Pinot Grigio and some vodka lemonades to drink, and also had the snacks after lunch.

Overall I enjoyed the burger and drinks, but disappointed there was no dessert item with it though.

No dessert item because it was an 11.20 departure so a snack flight rather than meal (lunch)? Will be interesting to se when I get flying again, what breakfasts and dinners are like. Most of these meals posted I would eat in a heartbeat...

Keen to see what we get on our flight to Ballina next month, been a while since we’ve gone anywhere.

There’s only three meal times now )breakfast/lunch/dinner). It could be that it was lunch there’s no dessert. Wasn’t an issue, just would’ve been nice. My flight home today will be a dinner flight, no idea what’s on the menu though.

Dinner on VA788 (CNS-BNE) last night. 5:40pm departure, choices were pumpkin gnocchi with ragu or Moroccan chicken with chickpeas and cauliflower. The CS did orders back to front so being in 1A/C we were last to be offered dinner, and by that time only the chicken was left (there were 5 chicken and 2 gnocchi loaded for a 6/8 cabin). I had the chicken, my mum couldn’t eat it so the CS offered to put something else together but ended up getting the captain to switch meals, so mum had the captains dinner. Chicken was very juicy, was tasty but could’ve packed more of a punch. Again no dessert but had a couple of cookies from the pantry. Bit of a dry argument with the PDB though DBD70DF4-8C80-45E8-A532-A2DAB777DD41.jpeg EC0543BC-22AC-4A43-BC19-7AE0EF7E12CB.jpeg

pumpkin gnocchi with ragu
As someone who had this gnocchi earlier and as a vego who only rarely gets quality airline food, I can say that that gnocchi was awesome :) I enjoyed it with a PN.

Looking forward to it (or a similar vego fair) on my next trip in Nov
