'MAX' is just a marketing name after all. The official regulatory designation is a Boeing 737-8 etc.
Not that much different to airlines dropping 'Next Generation' when referring to the 737-800 or 'Dreamliner' for the 787 variants
Again, correct; though you’ll be hard-pressed to find a 787 that doesn’t have “Dreamliner” proudly painted on the fuselage or an Airbus neo without the same + indicated on its safety card.
I have a small model of a Copa Airlines 737-MAX8 with “MAX” taking up the last quarter of the fuselage. It makes me chuckle every time I spot it on the shelf. Safe to say that frame doesn’t look the same in real life anymore.
