Vinomofo Wine Deals

Bloody Parker. 🤬
It was actually Huon Hooke who gave 97 points review - It was reviewed in 2021 - so maybe possible that VM batch wasn't stored properly or maybe there are some shenanigans as the box it arrived in looked cheap - hard to believe that Peter Lehman would put its flagship in a cheap box like the one it arrive in.

Now tempted to try a bottle ASAP

You're right about the packaging. I noticed that myself, but hadn't thought further of it. Certainly puts a big question mark on the provenance.

BTW I wasn't bagging HH or anyone who reviewed this wine, but referring to Parker championing big, bold, heavily oaked, high alcohol wines.
Fine if you've got the quality fruit to carry the style.
But which Kickstarted a stampede of imitators seeking to ride the wave & cash in on the trend. Part of the current excess wine stocks is an ocean of over-extracted, over-fermented, over-wooded swill that is undrinkable when young & will not reward cellaring because there was never any balance or depth to begin with.

Which is what that bottle reminded me of.
Bottle seems legit.
Back label: imported by a Dublin wholesaler.
What might have been a good wine, destroyed by poor storage or crossing the equator more times than most AFF-ers?

Long time reader, first time poster here.

I opened a bottle of the Stonewell Shiraz 2015 this afternoon.
To be honest, I found it quite average and not as good as I expected.

The oak and alcohol were both quite strong, and after one glass I could already feel a headache coming. Maybe it is just me, but I found that a little strange.

The packaging was also very basic. When the box arrived, I honestly thought I had bought a case of cleanskin wine!

The funniest part is that it looks like this Peter Lehmann was imported from Europe. Somehow, I am drinking an Australian wine in Australia after it travelled all the way to Europe and back again.

Has anyone else tried this batch? Maybe I just got an average bottle.

I'm not sure what all the hate is for, I opened a Stonewell 2015 tonight and it's remarkably similar to the 3x 2016's I've had recently. A touch more oak perhaps, but it's very much the same style in my opinion.

Sounds exactly the same to the 2016 I bought from VM the other month. I returned them as I did not enjoy it, especially at the $40 price point, it tasted way too one dimensional and was not alike any other Stonewell I've had before. In my opinion these have not been stored well and potentially some cases are more affected than others?
