In the spirit of serafino, I have opened the 2010 terremoto tonight. It too is under cork. Excellent vintage and excellent wine. No trips back to the PO for me.
Re the Serafino cabernet, last year Melbourne cellar door had their 2002 vintage by the glass. Was drinking unbelievably well at the 20 year mark. Cheap great drinking.

Compare that with my favourite suspect dated VM wine. 2012 RSR. People know my thoughts on this wine. I call BS on the vintage. Palate, cork and sediment just don't add up for a wine of its age.

Hmm, haven't had the 2012 myself but I have the 2014 and 2015 here. Both of which I enjoy quite a bit, cork and lack of sediment are identical to your photo.
 
Well. I've finished my serafino. I opened it early on Wednesday and poured myself a glass. Another big glass on Thursday. And the last glass today on Saturday.

Day 1: I'd describe this as extremely acidic, similar to those types of "green" wines that had their grapes picked too early, and you get that punch of acidity in the wine. Then followed by just alcohol. Just tasted like alcohol for a good 5 seconds?. Then afterwards.. maybe 15 or 20 seconds later, there was some fruit left over on the tongue.. as in.. I can tell that this came from grapes but barely? Just very little fruit presence.

Day 2: was really excited to try it again after the acidity died down hopefully, was hoping some fruit would show as well. Well, the acidity did relax a bit, but still very present and alcohol very notable. Fruits didn't open any further.. just a lingering taste on the tongue afterwards.

Day 4: again, acidity did die down a good amount.. alcohol even less present this time. But fruit never really came out, it shows most at the mid to end palate, and is more of a fine/light show of fruit. No complexity or depth however which I feel is the biggest let down as the wine more or less just tasted flat without a peak and a follow up, just more of a " flat and light " kind of flavour profile.
 
Hmm.. so I agree with Nanachi description out of the gate save that my (2015 cork sharktooth) did settle somewhat over a few hours.
With little respect , I left it uncapped for 24 hours and tonight found it quite drinkable if unexciting
I will finish it tomorrow and decide what to do with the remaining five…
My philosophy is to generally wear my mistakes (depending on the investment) and I expect to hold , giving most of it away to less fussy friends….

What vintage and what Serafino wine is being described as VM sold 2015 2016 and 2017 Sharktooth and 2010 Terremoto.
 
Sharktooth 2016, the only thing i've ever been tempted to send back.

I have heard that some wines go through a "dormant" period, i'm almost tempted to keep this around for another 10 or 15 years just to see what happens to it.

Interesting that there was so much collective hope pre-order and now this has not eventuated. Is VM that good now at the marketing hype?

The winery is known for making good wines and previous vintages of the same label have been excellent
Agreed, that was the reasoning behind my purchase of it. I usually check out any independent reviews of a wine, and sharktooth also follows up with decent cellartracker notes / scoring. Vivino as well. Just particularly lacking notes or scores for the 2016 vintage online, so I based my purchase on previous vintage scores.

I've been very happy with the 2015 and 2016 bottles that I opened. Maybe this is a case of expectations being too high. It was $15 a bottle.
 
As a non-buyer, this sharktooth banter has been a real page-turner I must say. Multiple camps, passion, advocates and dissenters, lovers and leavers. The lot.

Such fun. It really does pay to belong here.

I daresay we haven't had such fun and controversy since the great cleanskin 'is it the signature' fiasco of '21. This might even surpass it...

Honestly i'd have to agree, i wasn't planning on opening any, but after seeing all the posts about it, how could i not?

Now the big test, for all the fellow 2018 grangers, who's willing to pop theirs open to confirm if there is a "VM" grange difference too? :)

I reckon after trying this there's a good chance you'll never go back to grange. And an equally good chance you'll want to return it...
 
Anyone going to be opening their 2004 Edelstone before Xmas so I will know whether to bring a back up or not to the Xmas table?
