I recall posts when the 2013 SV was released that consensus was the prior 2 vintages (2012 and 2011) were outstanding, but the 2013 was just okay. Nothing wrong with it and easy drinking, just not as spectacular.

I was doing a little background on their cabernet that was selling this week. I think it ws a 2009 as well. Their straight shiraz, also a 2009, really did well in the show series , and good reviews elsewhere, so considering most of this one has the same shiraz in it rom the same nangkata vineyard, I really like the feel of it. the fact that I have enough plonk means I am not buying, but definitely worth a punt. I had a little difficulty with their cabernet as it's not the shiraz show stealer that these guys reputation(albeit fleeting) comes from. The cab also looked honest, and then there's the fo guarantee.

edit - the cabs still there on sale.....looks like everyone went for uber.:cool:

d edit - as I peruse the huge list on the Fo, I can't help but think if they have a wine with a retail of fifty or more that sells for twenty in a six pack, it's gonna be a sellout. probably close if its a dozen. But you can certainly be disappointed and that is why some nine to twelve buckers may provide excellent pickings. Just a thought as I have too much spare time today. Tomoz, a long lunch in Fitzroy.

That's what I thought too, I know it's not a lot of cash but I haven't got the wherewithal to keep snapping up bargains willy-nilly as ultimately it's just as expensive as buying the occasional big gun!!

Thanks Vedder! Look forward to the return of the 2012s. I'm surprised the 2011s are better than the 2013s given the Pyrenees' vintage records. Or might the 2013s be still too young?

2013 has potential but is young, green and with a sharp acidity. in my opinion will be just as good as the 2011-2012 with time.
don't get me wrong its still good but chuck it in a decanter for a bit to open it up.
 
So any suggestions as to a good cabernet among the current sale offerings? Or am I better off going for the 2013 Leconfield cabernets Kemenys is offering as a secret deal for $18 ???????

Thanks Georgehall for this info. I've got some "think outside the quadrilateral" that I've been wondering what to do with.
 
My quaffers have needed restocking for a few weeks, but I haven't seen any black market or secret deals that tempted my itchy trigger finger. I received a $25 off next order offer today and have gone with the 2014 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz for $16 a bottle taking in account the credit and delivery.

And it's boom from me....(interestingly the Pudding Stone 2009 S/V got a silver gong in the ASWS results in 2011 with 51 points and the straight Shiraz from the same vintage just limped home with a score of 45 and no cigar) will report back with my impressions upon receipt of said wine....

This is what I found of the 2009 Shiraz


Last night the 2011 National Wine Show trophies were presented in Canberra by James Halliday AM.In a selection of the 'cream of the crop' gold medal Shiraz wines from around Australia it was the small team of vigneron & winemaker that won the ultimate prize.
From a rare patch of dirt on South Australia's Southern Fleurieu it was the Madeleines Nangkita Single Vineyard Shiraz that shone above all the big winery wines from well known regions.
A team effort from vigneron Peter Belej & winemaker Chris Dix, the wine had already won two gold medals at previous wine shows & is a good successor to their gold medal and trophy winning Shiraz from past vintages.
Winemaker Chris Dix was in good form accepting the trophy from James Halliday saying "winning this award highlights the quality of this vineyard and to win the Shiraz Trophy at the National Wine Show, dubbed the 'Wine Grand Final' is just fantastic – we really can't do better than that!

You won't regret that purchase its an excellent Shiraz. This ones not quite as good as the '13 but still very good indeed for the price. Still a bit young so I'd recommend opening it at least an hour before drinking.
