Vinomofo Wine Deals

Thanks, well there is something disjointed about the palate in my view, in that sense I agree. It just seemed unusual for a SV blend.

I haven't tried it, so can't really comment, other than the general observation that a very good contract wine maker (Tim Kirk) may not have had control over vineyard management and picking and had to work with whatever the vineyard manager gave him. Mix of ripe and under-ripe fruit is reasonably common, sometimes just the season, sometimes (more often?) poor vineyard management. The green undertones and hard, bitter tannins are common when that occurs. A good vineyard manager will thin the crop and/or reduce the green canopy when necessary to achieve better, more uniform ripeness.

Beefarmer, I seem to be quite partial to Gapsted drops and would like to give their Pinot Grigio a go. Were the ones you speak of black market deals or something? I don't recall seeing them but it may have been because I didn't recognise them.

Yes, they were BM deals that didn't need Anonymous Coward's impeccable detective skills as they were obvious. I think King Valley pinot Grigio were the key words. I notice the prosecco is currently on from gapstead, one I haven't tried.

This is in todays email - is it the Pinot Grigio you have just been discussing?

Jeeze! Mark Robertson can't have been too happy with dishing out the Gold medal from that review!

I used to read quite a few of the SIWC reviews, partly just to be amused by the widely diverse assessments of the same wine. I've given up in recent years, but they have new ownership recently, so the running and the website, may improve.

You have to wonder how some of the wines made the grade reading many of the reviews.

Ahoy Steady

Trying to single out my fav VM purchases is like trying to rank my top 10 movies. Coming in at top of the pops would probably be Blue Poles Allouran 2008. Ended up buying about 12-15 cases and wasn't bored even after the 100th bottle. Hopefully that doesn't reveal too much about my drinking habits, but fair to say the recycling bin needs a pallet jack every friday morning! Hard to say what would fill out the Top 5 but for sheer good value i'd include things like 2013 Maverick GSM, 2012 Amelia Park Cab Merlot, Greenstone Sangiovese & Andevine chardonnay ... although the Little Yarra pinot which just arrived was nothing short of exceptional. Pretty sure most of these ring true so probably no real surprises. On a final note bought the Giant Steps vertical recently and have to say the 2007 Tarraford made the Mt Mary which followed look like yellow tail!

Just had a rather funny call from VM. It was a mobile number matching my broker but when I answered it wasn't her. The girl on the other end of the line introduced herself and told me of an initiative VM were pushing in offering everyone a broker. I told her I had a broker and had ordered two cases from her this week. She then asked if by any chance I'd set up multiple accounts before giving me the email address of the one I'd used for last years $50 offer. I admitted I might have and she had a laugh about it. It seams that she and the other folk there have been receiving and are going to receive many similar answers. I suspect sometimes more than twice from the same customer....

I must be about the only VM customer with just 1 account.

Speaking of which, I wonder how many of their ~400K customers are unique people or repeat customers (c.f. people residing at the same address, or one time buyers).

I did hear something about a fraud blitz a while ago for the huge number of credits they were handing out, but then never heard again.

I've only got one account....

I also only have one. I did sign up 6 colleagues during the $50 credit offer - 4 of them gave the same (work) address for deliveries as my account.
We (the ones using the work address) all had our accounts frozen at least once - but a phone call fixed that. They are all legit.

Of all my referrals only one has continued on buying since the original purchase - and she is not very happy with me  as she can no longer drink the $8-$15 bottles of wine she used to by from local bottle shops after the various GSM's and the Maverick Cab blend she has picked up from the Fo. I mentioned elsewhere that one of the others I referred went over full steam with Naked Wines

Hi everyone. does anybody has any views / comments on the NZ pinot on offer now ? (the Holly 2011 PN) Price looking interesting compare to the rating and the vivino score.

Anyone know today's secret deal? GSM 2013 $12.50; thoughts/rec's from anyone who's tasted appreciated.

Ulithorne Dona GSM

I picked up three cases of this over the time they have had it online.

Strange two cases were cork, one was screw cap.

I opened up another bottle of it last night and it's very good, its light, and easy to drink. Needs half an hour to open up properly, the write up is pretty spot on, it calls it 'pretty' which is defiantly how I would describe it.

I've got 2 cases left, and am happy I have so much.

hey steady....I reckon they might have been channelling my thoughts this morning. I reckon it is, I bought my '15 after the very good '14. I like both obviously. My wife also likes both. 14 is a little better but one year older, so time to mature a tad. Both great, easy drinking as I previously mentioned. Back from lunch. Turned up at Lygon St- renovations going on so we left one car there and headed to Café Umago in Brunswick st. I booked Lygon on Tuesday for today and doors closed. How's that ! Nil desperandum. Umago was great where we had a lovely black angus porterhouse washed down with a really nice shiraz at thirteen dollars drink in. It was good.
