Vinomofo Wine Deals

I've started using VM fairly recently and take advantage of the 95 & 96 point mixed red sixpack deals. I think they're generally very good value allowing me to get cheap, highly rated wines from all over Australia.

Speak of mixed pack - bought my first one from VM: https://vinomofo.com/wines/mixed-case/black-market-95-pt-big-shots

From what I can work out, it has:
- Thousand Candles 2012
- Star Lane Beechworth Merlot 2010
- The much discussed Think Outside the Circle
- 3 Oceans Explorers Shiraz
- Churchview Bartondale Cab Sauv
- and a shiraz I don't think I've seen mentioned before - make Jack Estate Mythology Shiraz?

None of which I was willing to buy in a 6-pack, but will be looking to see if any of these match the VM hype :)

Some of the point ratings for the wines are just plain wrong so you have to be a bit careful. They also like rating some of the wines according to some dubious Halliday tasting event when in fact if you look the same wine up in the companion it scores much much lower.

You mean the Chardonnay Challenge ones?

Unfortunately my first disappointing purchase from the FO - Golding East End Rose

"energy, vitality and a basket full of berries. It’s crisp and dry
"

Not at all - tart, acidic, funky - love a dry rose, not this - hmmm - may contemplate my first return!

That's the beauty of buying from the Fo, easy returns.

Tried the Maverick Cabernet blend last night. I thought it went well with pizza from the local Italian place. It's a bit fruiter than a normal straight cabernet, and easy drinking right now (and I guess the next few years). Well worth the $9/bottle it cost, if looking for something to drink now.

I tried my first one of these tonight and found it to my liking - a bargain for the price paid IMO

Hey all, the Bit O Heaven is OK. Its a competent bottle of wine with some interest. The cool climate aspect has the jury out for me a bit. The acidity was a little higher than id like generally and came more and more to the fore with time open. The next day it had waned somewhat and came off relatively poorly against a bottle of Jeanneret Westward which had been open for over 48 hours at that point.

Overall, hard to argue at $9 a bottle, but either not right to my taste or possibly just not that super dooper a wine. I am unsure, as I said the jury is out. Might have another go next week at some stage.

Opened another bottle of this yesterday and I am really struggling with the bitterness (it's not acidity I don't think, I often struggle to separate these things). It could perhaps be described as bitter cherry, but whatever the case, I find it detracts significantly from the wine for me. Personally, I would find it hard to recommend.

Just in case anyone is curious on the 2009 Tahbilk Marsanne. It is stunning, I visited the winery late last year and had a go a this at the cellar door. Stunning! I prefer to drink my Marsanne only slightly chilled as when its too cold it takes away a bit from the peach, lemon and subdues the minerality. Pull the trigger on this one, its amazing! I grabbed a case already and most likely will get more

and...Boom!

Edit: not something I'd usually buy in a dozen, but I guess it's time to branch out, and am going off your recommendation :)

Curious that they list WSET level 2 as a requirement when many of their brokers clearly don't even have that level of knowledge.

To pass WSET L2 you only need 50% in the exam which consists of multiple choice questions with four options. So really, not too much knowledge is needed to just pass.

Agree it's a great wine. Price is not great though - Dan's have the 2009 listed at $15.19 in any 6 (but out of stock) and the 2010 listed for $16.15 in any 6 ($96.90 for 6). Combine this with the current Amex offer of $15 credit for $80 spend (online only), to buy 6 for $81.90, or $13.65 each. I suspect a lot of Dan stores will still have some 2009 too.

And apparently there's an even lower L1? What do you need to know for that - Which end to open the bottle? :)

I guess if you can get the 2009, that's a better price. Did a quick search, and no DM stores near my home or work have it.
The 2010 got a 92 from Halliday vs. 95 for the 2009 (if you care about Halliday's opinion)
