Vinomofo Wine Deals

Have you tried it or any other Star Lane before, Dr Ralph? Any thoughts?

Not tried. But it does sound like an interesting blend. For the price might be worth a try, especially if you could split the 12 bottle case with a few people.

The Leasingham BIN 61 on the other forum is also great value today (especially taking into account WISH card discount + cash back rewards + click and collect (so no delivery charges) + the fact that you can buy just one bottle. Works out around $10.50 a bottle).

Anyone have any idea of what this could be? BLACK MARKET DEAL Shiraz 2013?

Thanks

[h=2]Australian winemakers are struggling to make a profit, with 85% of growers reported to be unable to meet or exceed their production costs this year.[/h]
hunter-valley-640x427.jpg

As reported by ABC Online, the news comes from a 2015 vintage report published last Friday by the Winemaker’s Federation of Australia.
The situation is particularly dire in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, where 94% of growers are in the red.
“Prices in the warm inland regions are varying season to season off a very low base and we’re not seeing a structural uplift in those prices,” the federation’s chief executive Paul Evans said.
“What we need to do is grow demand for wine globally and you’ll see benefits flow through to all parts of the supply chain including grape growers,” he added.
Evans stressed the importance of promoting Australian wine in America as a solution to the problem via a multi-million dollar marketing campaign. He said the a proposal had been put to the Australian government to help fund the project.
The situation is very different in Tasmania, where 99% of growers are making a profit, while 57% of growers in the Barossa Valley are in the black.
Across Australia, the 2015 vintage is up in volume by 0.4% on a year ago at 1.67 million tonnes but is still below the eight-year average of 1.7 million tonnes.
Grape prices have risen by an average of 5% over the last year with Shiraz remaining the most widely planted grape in the country followed by Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

A very interesting article indeed which also laterally extrapolates to our subject header, and really does explain a lot about their success. Their timing was impeccable and we punters are the ultimate benefactors. To anyone except those who walk into a Colesworth shop and buy the prettiest labels, there will always be beautiful wines to buy. Often at under a tenner. So for the unfortunate wineries doing it tough, at least the 'fo gives them some sort of exposure for their quality wines. Just an opinion.

Just got home and very anxious to try the latest.....the 3oceans 'the explorers' shiraz 2013 from w.a....all I can say is, without food in you, this is a serious one. Nothing like the sweet barossans, this is leaner, drier, medium to full, lovely fruit driven, all those adjectives on the bottle are there, and it is very impressive. At the price, about $12, ridiculous value. I chatted to someone from Bright today who was a VM customer. We talked about quality, and price points. He gets his VM broker to recommend wines under a tenner. I would like to say that spending two to five bucks extra sometimes really rewards. This is a case in point. However, I will diversify as the third glass kicks in.....allow me to gather my thoughts because I think there is another you should all buy.......... I don't want to appear as a spruiker for VM, rather a spruiker for quality at a bargain price. This note is really about one wine from west oz, the Harewood 2012 shiraz cabernet, that sits there for sale. Like you, never heard of them. Like you, I do a bit of research before a purchase, and if it smells like a duck, it will be a duck. I shot of an email to the winery, and I am very satisfied to report that I hit the buy button four hours ago. After my concerns about the wine were put at ease. those concerns are always the same - has it enough weight and carry, has it character, longevity etc. Just buy some I suggest. I have no interest in the winery whatsoever, don't know the bloke from Adam, but what I do know is that in the last few months, west oz has thrown up Amelia park, sandalford, 3oceans, churchview and now this harewood...good luck for those punters who buy, and I look forward to the first critique, probably next Wednesday or thusrday night. Just poured another top up of the 3oceans, and my final comment is....a stunning wine, one that really opens up with air....8.4

Thanks for the report Bee! I can't wait to pop one up tonight!

Hi All

My first time here. Have bought 6.5 cases from VM in the last 2 weeks with 1.5 on the way. No cellar so the laundry is near impassible - my wife is bemused! She hasn't seen the cc bill yet though.

I've had a lot of help from your posts here so just wanted to say thanks.

A few quick thoughts:
- drinking 3 Oceans Chard now. Very good. Good acid, long finish, a fair bit of mlf but an ok amount.
- kalgan river shiraz 11: family was very impressed. A very good wine - the label says soft and velvety and it is not wrong.
- Starve dog lane bubbles: very happy with this. Great bready characters which is what I like. Has held up well despite it's age.
- Patrick riesling: a good buy. I normally drink Clare so this was a bit different - less lime and more pear and apple.
- Arturo Heathcote shiraz 14: not sure at first - pretty funky - but really came together a day after opening. Perhaps it's because it's so young. More for the adventurous but I am not regretting it.

Have got the Star Lane Shiraz coming and I think the Star Lane straight Nebb is now on offer via FB VM. Tempted but a lot to invest in a single winery which I know nothing of.

The VM "family" continues to grow, welcome Mr"B"...
I'm sipping one of my favourites tonight (my second dozen) the Atlas 32 Cab/Malbec.
It's a bit earthy and has it's faults .. anyway .. I like it… :)
Nothing exciting on the fb sale tonight and the ratio of volume products continues to grow as we all suffer the "joys" of vm success.
So much really interesting wine on the 'fo over the last few years and I wish I had bought more, great tool hindsight……………..

Thanks Beefarmer, great read.

I tried the Robert Bowen Cab Sav the other night, haven't drunk any alcohol for a few days so not sure if my taste buds were in tune but I loved it. The best wine I have tasted from VM for quite some time. This wine is $60 down to $24 and I have tasted some like this in the past and very sceptical when I see big price reductions like this, my negative sides says the wine is grossly overpriced and only way to unload it is to sell it at a realistic price. In my eyes this is not the case with the Robert Bowen. If / when it comes up again I will buy a few more.
