I reckon the St Peters maybe, as it's a bit more expensive ($55 at Dan's). The Benno is a notch down at $43 and a fair bit lower in alc %.
It's either that or the Langi Mast shiraz - I can't see anything in that Prem price range that matches up, especially in the 5 star winery area.

It is not the St Peters guaranteed. 2012 St Peters has been released for a while now. This deal indicates this particular wine hasn't been released yet.

Add to that, I just checked the Benno's rrp which is indicated on some places that sell the Benno a rrp of $60 :)

2006 Benno review might give some clues. Similar berries, Oak etc but harsh on the drinkability might detract from ability to sell it at $60.


In the glass it look positively purple - bright & very youthful. The nose is very sweet and juicy, with cherry ripe and Bounty, sweet fruit and oak on the nose - its all small berries and creamy French oak, topped with VA & a bit of mint. The palate though doesn't quite live up to the lusciousness of the nose - its quite sour, dry and dominated by alcohol, backward and even a bit hard in its profile, with woody oak tannins intruding on the back palate. After a couple of hours in the glass it softens up a shade, but it still has a hardness about it that seems to detract from the drinkability, the alcohol giving it a final bludgering boot on the finish.

So my conclusion here was that this Benno may well emerge as something very fine indeed - the firm structure and briliant colour give hints of that - but at this very point in time its just hard work. Important plus signs on this one.. 16.0++

Finally gotten round to trying the starve dog bubbly... it's interesting. Heavy for a bubbly to be honest. A fair bit of fruit up front (almost too much), and bready-ness, fine bead.
The jury is still out on this one, but it's more of my type of bubbly, and it seems to have been cellared ok. For 10 years cellaring it's a decent drop for $10 a bottle.

2010 was just as good as 2012 so I am not sure why you would think it would score 4 pts higher? JH score of 90pts for a good vintage is not convincing for $18 a bottle. Pass. Good work on discovering the wine though!

Beechworth 2012 vintage was rated better than 2010 and this winery made a good go of a difficult vintage in 2011 so i was speculating that a way better vintage than 2011 (which got a JH92) you would expect an improvement on the JH92, thats all. Either way I am overloaded with Shiraz and am really only after Pinot Noir and Straight Grenache to round out my cellar

Buzzard we really do have to meet - IMHO - and Cruiserette continually reminds me that is impossible - but anyways I really think that post right there might just be 'The Post Of The Century' - again IMHO of course.

I agree, don't think I'll be getting anymore but will enjoy these 6. Although let me have another glass.... ;)
 
I like your reasoning. I too was tempted, but will pass for something else. This one would probably end up in the dozen mix pack...you would have thought that it would be close to a sell out, but given folks unfamiliarity with the area, it sits. Probably a decent drop though. that is the beechworth 12
