Just poured myself the first of 6 Fox Gordon Hannah's Swing Barossan shiraz's 2010 bought in late april. Until now, never tried FG straight varietals, except for a good Cab-Tempranillo they make. The FG shiraz is a serious wine and it's very good. I can compare with my recent tasting of the '13 Miranda Golden Lion, one I was also seriously impressed with. The big cough cat with the devils whiskers is that one, not the Kangarilla, but let's move on. This swing is substantially more earthy and serious and benefits from lingering in the wide mouthed glass. The lion is sweeter and my palate probably has a preference for sweeter fruit, but I am always objective. They are both very good. Great deep ruby/crimson colour with oak predominant. Then again, it's 3 years older than the big cat. The FG would be better with food- dinner is still a while off - but if I had to make a choice now, coughcat wins. Not by much: another night, with a nice steak, it will probably be Hannah. But at least they are both really good.
