Vinomofo Wine Deals

Damn it - missed the Pinot again! I did buy the Kaesler last time and it looks suspiciously the same. Very good wine for the price ($7.50 a bottle)!

I can probably tell you tomorrow when it arrives. I got the dispatch notification on Friday morning, so it should be delivered tomorrow morning.

It was the Kaesler, which I am happy with.

I did jump on the Pinot but it's yet to be delivered. Will let you know when it finally arrives. They often come back on at the end of month with free delivery.

That $13.50/bottle black market Pinot arrived. Was the Riorret Balnarring 2011, not tried it yet but looking fwd to it.

Ahh sneaky... Not on my radar as I always associated DeBortoli / Riorret with the Yarra Valley, rather than Mornington.

Now that you mention it, it does make sense that they probably acquired two (or more) lots of Pinot Noir at once - the 2011 "Emu" Yarra Valley Single Vineyard Pinot Noir, and the 2011 "Balnarring" Mornington Peninsula Single Vineyard Pinot Noir (as DrSammyLee speculated at the start of January).

2011 wasn't the best year, but if the reviews are something to go buy, it should still be quite palatable, and at that price I certainly wouldn't be complaining too hard.

FYI - I also received a DeBortoli branded Pinot Noir in one of the mix boxes, but am yet to try that one.

Do you think the $13.50 Yarra Pinot could be the Riorret Emu in that case?

More likely to be the DeBortoli Riorret "The Abbey" Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2011

The giveaway is that the 2010 got 96 points from the big man.

could it also be Phi Pinot Noir?

vinomofo say $45 rrp, although last deal said $45 and it was the Riorret.
the Riorret is $42, the Phi is $45 (chardonnay).

Perhaps... The 2010 did get 96 points, although they say that Halliday hasn't tasted the 2011, and the 2011 Phi was tasted in September last year (94 pts).

A small variance in RRP is not uncommon with these deals as there are numerous sources they can quote as the reference price.

Given they have had other Riorret wines recently, I am speculating that they got a quantity of all of them at a good price given the tougher 2011 vintage.

It was the Kaesler, which I am happy with.

I have had a carton of the Kaesler and think it is ripper good value! Love the mof_!

A couple of bottles down, and she's a beauty.

It drinks well from the bottle, but I find a couple of mins in a decanter really helps it open up.

Incidentally one of these showed up in one of the Feb mixes for me.

Speculating about today's "Black Market deals"

BLACK MARKET DEAL Victorian White Blend 2012 - [-]$23[/-] $6.90
I think it is the Chalmers Montevecchio Bianco 2012, which is a blend of vermantino, fiano and a small amount of moscato giallo. 90 Points from Halliday. Vinomofo have had these Montevecchio blends before.

BLACK MARKET DEAL Petit Verdot 2011 - [-]$28[/-] $8.40
There are only two 5 Red Star wineries in Pemberton, and only one of them has Petit Verdot grapes, so this one is probably the Bellarmine Petit Verdot 2011. The cellar door price is $28, but not much other info to go on.

Didn't see the first one but I agree with the second.
It's a grape I know nothing about so might pass.

I have added links.

I will give both a miss today... FWIW, I have a single bottle of the Montevecchio at home as part of a mix case. That is enough for a taste, but I don't think I would get through 12.

I think you're right. The only questions I have are these:

1) They appear to have had this wine listed before, but not as a black market deal:

vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/bellarmine-petit-verdot-2011-7c250f49

Do they often list something once and then sell as a black market deal if it hasn't all sold?

2) If it's just Petit Verdot why do they listed it as "Petit Verdot & Blends"?

But otherwise I'd say it's a 95% chance of being the Bellarmine. Certainly cheap enough at that price.

Anyone tried the Geoff Merrill SMS 2008? I like his wines but not tried this particular one.

I had a case of this from Vinomofo about 4 to 6 months ago. It was fine. Good value I think.

I have quite enjoyed the SMS and think it is a decent wine and excellent value at that price.

It is a sangiovese blend, so something a little different to the usual shiraz / grenache blends which he is famous for.
