Vinomofo Wine Deals

I completely agree. When we first opened it I wondered what all the fuss was about. I found it very dry and lacking in fruit. Left it in the bottle for another day and the second glass was definately better. Still not sure about this one though....

I really decanted the first bottle and it was just...meh. Had a second one tonight and same, will let it sit overnight and see if it's any better. But pretty disappointed about this one.

For those interested https://www.vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/black-market-deal-shiraz-blend-2015-23841 looks to be Grove Estate Wines Cellar Block Shiraz Viognier. I haven't tried it but here are HH notes:
"Very spicy, peppery and slightly forward aromas; fragrant, whole-bunchy, elegant wine with very fine tannins. Violet floral nuances. Lovely elegant style."
So the Grove Estate 2015 Shiraz Viogner is back again and I'm thinking of grabbing some to replace the Mitchell Seven Hills that is going back. Has anyone actually had it?

I believe the McLaren Vale Shiraz: Vinomofo - Black Market Shiraz 2015 - Red Wine

to be the latest vintage of the Mclaren Vale Associates 'Legacy' reserve Mclaren Vale Shiraz. It is mentioned that the last one on Vinomofo was the 2013- did anyone get that to confirm its the Associates?

Tony Keys Wrote the following about the 2013:

McLaren Vale Associates ‘Legacy’ Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013: Black magic in liquid form. All the beauty of the deep and dark. 95 points. It’s good, but I don’t think $120 good.

Given the plethora of Mclaren Vale Shiraz that goes through the Fo (or any retailer for that matter) I'm giving it a miss. I think the Ulithorne Unicus or the HaselGrove The Lear to have been the standout Mclaren reds. Not to mention the Waywood alternative varietal stuff.

Apologies in advance if this was covered: I did a thorough search through the threads but didn't find it confirmed earlier.

Was an easy one. Most top Mclaren wineries don't inflate their flagship wines THAT much.

Yeah I got a case of the Grove Estate- here is my tasting note:

Beautiful alluring perfume of freshly picked blueberries, freshly ground white pepper and garden herbs- and a delicate aroma of dried apricots- its this note that gives the viognier component away. On the palate is black and blue fruit with a hint of stone fruit tartness. Flavor and precision: this is a finely chiseled wine: acidity is animated and the tannins fine but imperceptible. The fact that it is 13% alcohol and achieves such ripeness and fullness of flavor is a huge plus.

Made by legendary winemaker Tim Kirk for Grove estate you know you are getting something special.

I put the 2016 Lear in a blind tasting of 6 wines on Monday, it came in 4th on both my ranking and the group ranking, the top 3 being Rockbare Barossa Babe Shiraz 2015 ($33), Hugo McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015 ($23) and Sons of Eden Pumpa Cabernet Shiraz 2015 ($23).
I bought and kept the 2014 and 2015 Lear, but the 2016 is a bit harder to like, seems a bit lean, hard-edged, not quite in balance. I'll probably send this one back, it struggled in this set as a $30 wine, let alone at $90.

Haven't tried the Lear 16'- but the 14 was pretty damn good at the discounted price. Have heard good things about Rockbare and Sons of Eden are phenomenal value- the Zephyrus being one of the best bargains available- especially if you can get it under $30.

Hi Redbigot I was told the 2016 reds need time as did the 2013 reds. Example 1. The 2016 Clarrys gsm was tight or closed compared to the 2015 and 2017 aa was their Greenock shirsz. I am sitting it out till the 2017's come out. Cheers Rug
