Vinomofo Wine Deals

OK, I decided to open the infamous Cantiniere and see for myself. My two pennies are: Not a typical McLaren Vale wine in my mind, perhaps lacking usual regional characteristics, being softer, lighter bodied, a little delicate and not overly fruit forward. Completely over inflated RRP, probably a Dans RRP $20 more appropriate, however not a bad little wine that is inoffensive enough and easy drinking. Give it a few years and it should round out as a nice little quaffer.

I haven't opened any yet.

They are still in the box, and I will probably refrain from labeling them until I try one in a couple of years. If average they will become presents for school teachers who don't know anything about wine

Appears as though they have pulled this deal some time during the month :( Have tried a few tricks in the shopping cart but only coming out at the one bottle price

Called into Dans last night and managed to pick up a couple of cases of remaining store stock. The deal is still valid in store till the end of the month but it is only on remaining store stock as they have run out of one type of the bottles on offer at the warehouse.(Victoria)

This may be a good move, my last bottle was quite ok and I wondered if I had misread the wine..all too late anyway.
It may be one of those wines that needs some bottle time to discover it's mojo
Imagine the embbbb..arastment if , some time in the future, it really comes good and becomes a sought after item.
otoh.. ………………...

speaking of otoh.. Hannah's swing..cracked one last night , a perfectly drinkable commercial Shiraz and my 6 will disappear easily enough.
The return policy is clearly over generous and it's time to tighten up and put the money into better deals for loyal mof_'s...... IMnsHO… :)

For a recommended $60 i would have expected a better quality - the blurb by Vinomofo suggested a better quality - therefore if I am misled the returns policy comes into play - I don't think its too generous in those circumstances.

I have found better wines for a lesser recommended price - as I keep saying we all have different tastes and expectations - Viva la difference

I thought the Hannas Swing was much better after an hours breathing but not as good as a previous offering from VM a few years back.

The 2014 McLaren Vale Shiraz on vinmofo down from 75 to 25 is a stunner despite what a self appointed ''expert'' had said on an earlier post here!

What exactly was said? I'm assuming you're referring to RB - he didn't disparage this wine, and in fact said he bought a case himself!

We are all experts at something I guess in the wine game and probably better to be one than a lemming. Then again, if you are an expert being a lemming like myself, thanks to the likes of Anonymous Coward exposing himself to us in the nicest possible way with his deduction skills, I wouldn't have landed myself a cellar so full of beauties(thanks to the excellent VM credit policy) . To each their own, good money spent on good wine is never blown. As much as Mitolos' Cantiniere is known, a lot of punters will find them difficult to atone. But no one is like a dog with a bone, it's time to mellow the tone. Back to the deals.

Here is the ''expert's view''.

That's not saying the wine's actually bad. It's expressing reservations, and also hoping that VM have learned from the backlash from other "hyped" wines sold only through VM - the Haselgrove Batch 187, and the Mitolo Cantiniere.

Since you found the wine a stunner, care to share some tasting notes to help others decide whether it's their style or not?

Hi All

Any ideas of what wine the following deal is?

2015 Sauvignon Blanc King Valley $26.00 down to $8.00

I received a 2015 Gapsted Limited Release King Valley SB in a mixed box recently, so probably that. Not on their website, but the Pinot Grigio in the same range is listed at $26. Haven't tried it yet, so can't tell you if its any good unfortunately.

The Cantiniere was a blend of barrels from the blocks that go into Angela's and GAM, two established lines.
I bought a case but cancelled the order based on others assessment. I did try one later from a friend, over a couple of days and didn't like it.
I'm quite familiar with Mitolo wines over many years.
If this was the best barrels as they claim then it wouldn't be sold cheaply on VinoMofo, my guess stands, I think it was probably a blend of the leftover barrels of those two.
Plenty of people here sent it back, plenty of people here send back wines that others rave about, like the Hannah's Swing - which I gave an assessment of why that may be for some people.

Do you know how many wines I "look at" and recommend or not, based on 40+ years drinking and cellaring the stuff, each day, week, month, year? One example of a "negative comment" and I stand by it.

I have bought both The Cantiniere and the Unicus. While I found the former somewhat underwhelming relative the hype generated by vinomofo, I found the Unicus to be very good. Wonderful concentration of flavour. Acid, tannins and oak beautifully balanced in my opinion. While it would undoubtedly cellar, I enjoyed it's vibrancy and youthfulness very much. I can't recall having a better shiraz at the $25 price point.

Just to continue that feeling, I can say this wine is just beautiful in my opinion.
I find it medium bodied and not a great McV monster at all.
Plums, cherries and what I think is French oak make a real perfmued nose.
There is more of this on the palate with some pomegranate that I like.
The finish is just amazingly long. I find this wine showing purity and some elegance.
There are plentiful tannins and natural acid for long aging, I guess 10 years

Thanks for the report. Some people do post their view on VM wine here in this thread (usually if someone asks "how was it?" prior to buying) there are generally a lot more reports in the "nice wines I have drunk" thread, though the reports may be weeks/months/years after the VM offer.

I think you will find as a general rule having different opinions on AFF is perfectly OK (even encouraged), dumping on people and offering disparaging opinion on those individuals because they differing opinions is not. I.e play the ball, not the man.

Watching a good movie with a good wine from a Vinomofo deal is many a highlight. So there I was recently with the 2011 Pyren Studio-Ink from the Pyrenees. What a fantastic cherry nosed, hints of graphite and mild white pepper medium to full flavoured cool climate shiraz. Just loved it. Had it with my first Kangarilla Road Alluvial Fans Shiraz 2013 which was a more earthy style. Blackberries, hints of chocolate, probably overpriced a tad but nice enough. The Pyren was the better wine. But in the background was the movie, a classic and RedBigots musings above got me thinking about Travis Buckle.

What was worse than the Cantiniere since it's time to move on with that one ? The winemakers selection Pinot Noir from Tomich winery.

[mod hat]As per the post above by burmans. AFF encourages people to have different views and even disagree on things but DO NOT cross the line and comment on or attack other individuals. This was expressed earlier this evening by NM and obviously some people are not listening.

A lot of posts have been deleted and I apologise if some useful information got lost in the deletions but if it was it was due to it being mixed in with personal comments and attacks.

Let's get back to discussing the topic :!: [/mod hat off]

Now can I go to bed :?:

Back on topic, I shared a bottle of the fabulous FG Brothers & Sisters cab sav with the FIL last night and it's the only wine we've ever both liked, we usually have such different palettes. I know it was restocked recently, but I'm not sure if its still active/in stock. Does anyone have the link?
