I presume that's a Snapchat deal - never used it myself (I feel like such a luddite)

Didn't know VM was on SnapChat (I also have never used it). And it hardly seems to be a VIM exclusive if anyone on Snapchat can buy it...
Also odd that there seems no confirmation of what it is anywher on the 'net if it's been offered before.

Haselgrove The Lear 2011 was offered Feb 2015 for $36 from $90.
This VIM offer is for $29.90 from $90. Generally VMofo follows same pricing for all vintages.
Is this an exception?

I think sometimes the 'I' in VIM is silent. Anyway, I'm starting to get nervous chills, last experienced when the mitolo cantiniere was being discussed.

Possibly an exception, though they're not entirely the same: the 2011 would have had more aging, plus had reviews/scores. 2014 doesn't.

Look at the Penley Steyning that was offered - $42 and $49.90 for the 2010 and 2012, the latter having higher scores.

Interesting that the 2011 is more expensive - being a 2011 and all!

I agree reviews help though.

My concern is no wine at this price point has been tasted by JH for the 2013 vintage, let alone the 2014 vintage. Are we buying wine futures again?

I beg to differ (at least on the 2013 front) - JH has everything from Penfolds Bin 707 2013 (@$500/bottle) through to 2013 Clos Otto, through to Mount Mary Quintet 2013 etc. rated. A quick scan of Wine Companion finds ~75 wines from 2013 at $90+/bottle rated. And there's others already released (Penfolds RWT 2013 springs to mind) that he hasn't yet either rated or managed to get up on his site yet.

For 2014, it's a different, but already Clonakilla's Shiraz Voignier 2014 is up on the site, as well as some whites like Penfolds Bin A Reserve Chardonnay 2014.

Obviously this is a new release - but at least The Lear has had previously releases.

I meant to add - Shiraz from McLaren Vale to my earlier statement (none of the Haselgrove's from 2013 or any other "super premium" shiraz's from the region have been tasted.) from previous vintages 2014's shouldn't be available for tasting until November, let alone sold to the public.

So, the challenge is to find some 2013 *McLaren Vale shiraz* that's been rated by JH at this price point? Not sure why McLaren Vale shiraz is different to anywhere else, but here you go. More than "none" IMHO:

My apologies - it will teach me to post while multi-tasking.

I had done two searches - one for 2013 to look for five star wineries (no black ones on that list?) and for 2014. It's the 2014 search that yields no matches (and I acknowledge that that doesn't mean they don't exist.)

My concern about buying on the assumption that it is a Haselgrove is that they haven't released their 2013 wines of that calibre for tasting or release at their own cellar door. How would VM get the 2014 (unless they have made a mistake, which is not uncommon.)

So in summary, I'm sitting this one out. I'm keen though for anyone who did pull the trigger to post what it is once delivered, just for our learning.

Pertaringa is 5 black (though I think that's out-of-date entry). Richard Hamilton is also 5 black. Neither matches $90 though.

Based on the description, I'm pretty sure it is the Lear - all the words about being "by the sea" etc, points to the Seaview vineyard. From what I can tell there was no 2012 the Lear either - last vintage was 2011.

What I'm concerned about is buying a 2014 vintage so early, when it's supposed to be a premium shiraz.

So in summary, I'm sitting this one out. I'm keen though for anyone who did pull the trigger to post what it is once delivered, just for our learning.

I'm also inclined to sit this one out.
