Vinomofo Wine Deals

well what a coincidence Tango. I returned a whitebox shiraz 2012 or whatever the recent one was to dannys, swapped it for my first ever Tassie pinot and had a smile all over. firstly because the pinot was damn good for $26 and secondly I got the full $16.20 refund. I found it totally underwhelming when you consider VM shirazes at under twelve. Tango, it could have been the year also as we all know. They certainly vary, but once again, individual tastes.

Beefarmer - coincidence indeed. I haven't had the 2012 but it could just be that my palate is different to yours. I recently had a 2012 St Huberts Pinot Noir between four of us, two of us loved the funkiness of it and the fact that it was a pinot with decent body, the other two hated it. This scored 95 from James Halliday.

Each to their own??

PS - just had the Tomich Hill Winemaker Reserve Pinot Noir - fairly nice drop that I think most people would enjoy but like other's said, probably not worth the $45 from the winery! It got better after about 1.5hrs open.

Edit - will probably put the rest away for a couple of years.

Beefarmer - I have just cyber snooped on your profile page! And see you have racked up 866 visits. And you have only posted just over 350 posts. You must be the Martial of AFF blogging!! Many here won't know what I am referring to, so I am mean you are a new talent (in the sense the big guns have thousands of posts) with star quality in your youthful days ... [using a new EPL starlet, by way of example]!!

Wozza, in this game you never stop learning and without my brother bringing in my first shared vinimofo purchase last year, none of this would have ever happened. I was smitten from day one. The wine was the Glenlofty 2011 Shiraz. Talk about setting a high standard, it certainly did but it has been surpassed. Along this journey in the love of the fermented grape we all share, I am sure most of us have been lucky to expand our palates and see whether the more expensive wines are actually worth it. You will not be surprised with the answer. Of course they are. Mostly. Furthermore, if we were straight pissheads, we wouldn't be keen on getting each others insights and experiences with said vinos.

Keeep enjoying Fiji Wozza and if I could ask just one favour from you. Could you bring me back something a little different. Namely, one of those little bells that you find as a souvenir item akin to a spoon etc. Something that has significance with Fiji of course. I will gladly come 786 kilometres too pick it up ! Cheers.

Like any wine club, quality of product is the key and I would say they mostly do a great job. A sad indictment out there is the fact that about 80per cent of wine is bought and drunk within 2 days.....I get a big kick in helping friends get into a better quality product, or in some cases, wine in general.

Wozza, in the words of some old Italian dude hanging around the streets of Rome , Veni Vidi Bibi.

Just had my first taste of the Tomich Hill Reserve after around 90 mins in the decanter. Young, there's fruit, a tad volatile and acidic but I like it! Cellar the rest and try a bottle every so often to see how it ages.

I have occassionally viewed this thread to check on black market deals (thanks) and recently made first purchase from VM for over a year, after having bought a case of The Cup Pinot for around $10 btl and found that, well it tasted like it cost about $10 btl. Decided to splash out on the Squid Ink, which is yet to arrive, and the Tomich which arrived yesterday. My in-house Pinotphile wasn't impressed with the Tomich so I emailed today to have it returned. Was thinking of getting the mixed Pinot 6 pack to try - has anyone tried?
Cheers

You will have to give us your Squid review if you have one in the next month. I have bought two of the 6pack pinots. So far only tried three. The duck sauce was good. The riposte was good but only after about 90 minutes. the layla was stunning. I will be having the tomich for lunch tomorrow so with two good reviews and one bad so far, we will see...then taste.

One of my staff who I have referred to the Fo is after 2 or 3 mixed cases (white and red) as her first purchase - she is Spanish and her family is visiting in December and are big wine drinkers and she wants a range of Aussie wines for them to sample. I know nothing about whites - can anyone recommend any of the current mixed cases?

OT but she just returned from a holiday back home and brought back a "2005 Bodegas Fernández de Piérola Rioja Reserva" that her family recommended, anyone know much about Spanish wine......

VM have the Veuve Fourny Blanc de Blancs back on $54 a bottle plus free shipping in the current promo.
I reviewed this in the Champagne thread last week.
Beautiful nose, great bead. Citrus upfront, superb length. I know it's available elsewhere at this price (DeBortoli import) but is relatively scarce so thought to mention it here.

Any ideas what it is?

If you'd searched for "Margaret River Chardonnay 2013", it's the top few results.

VM is also more expensive than Dan's for the 2012 Seppelt St Peters ($58.90 / 6 vs $55.05 / 6). Contacted them yesterday via Facebook message, but yet to hear back.
It pays to shop around....
