Vinomofo Wine Deals

I love my pinots and Sixfootsix pinot noir is pretty decent as far as pinots in the $15-20 price range go. It's somewhat of a staple by the glass offering at a mid/low range restaurant. A little disappointed that I can't boast about getting an unbelievable bargain with the arrival of something unexpectedly amazing (something like Ninth Island or the aforementioned Coldstream Hills), but for ~$6.52 a bottle (after applying free credit and delivery fee) it's a great price for an everyday quaffer. :)

Again, whilst I'm not a pinot noir fan, I wouldn't call Ninth Island significantly better than Six Foot Six. Both $15-20 (Ninth is about $2 more) and both decent, but not exceptional. Cold Stream Hills is in a different league though.

I love Ninth Island. Exceptionally good value even at normal price and IMO much better than 6foot6 with a slightly more substantial body.

Ahhh, this thread along with the Champagne thread prove that with wine sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder?? (or personal tastes anyway).

I don't mind Ninth Island, but I certainly wouldn't write home about it. I see Ninth Island is a safe choice when you have a restaurant with a limited wine list.

My case of the SixFootSix is safely at home, but yet to be opened... I might try and taste one this week.

Opened a SixFootSix with some pizza tonight. Not quite what I was expecting. Lots of red fruit but still quite a nice body.

It's not the greatest Pinot I've ever tasted but I'm actually enjoying and am very happy considering the price I paid.

YMMV

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Got this delivered on Monday morning and you were spot on! Retailing at Dan's for $22 a bottle so pretty happy with just over $6 a bottle! Haven't had a chance to drink it yet but will report back when I have.

Just opened a bottle of that Mitolo The Jester and we really enjoyed it - so much so the first bottle quickly became a second. For around $6 a bottle this really was a bargain. So with my faith in the Black Market restored I'm looking at the 2012 Mudgee Shiraz Cabernet for $100.80 a case that just arrived in my inbox. Any clues? Black Market Deal Shiraz Cabernet 2012 - Red Wine

I ordered six of the Seppelts Chalambar Shiraz in the EOFY sale. A nice wine IMO and although not a spectacular price was still a few $$ better than DM and had free shipping.

It's the 2011 Schild Estate Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It's been on several times before. They've also had the 2011 Shiraz.

I've tried the Shiraz, but not the CS yet. The Shiraz was just OK. If I'd paid $20 for it I'd have been disappointed, but at $6 I can't complain. But I will say, as I'm sure you already know, that 2011 wasn't a great vintage for the Barossa. Hence why there are so many cheap 2011 wines around.

I've just ordered a case of the CS.

I've now either consumed or on sold the rest of the case of CS I received. It was great. Very happy with it for the price. Wish I'd have purchased more.

So you rate it?

I got a Cab Sauv as part of one of the club cases.

For around $6 it's very good. Happily buy more at that price. Dan Murphy's has it for around $17. I think that's actually a fair price for it.

Everyone knows that 2011 was a bad year for the Barossa, but there does seem to be a few wines that have snuck through the overall bad vintage.

Agreed - the Schild Cab Sauv and Mitolo Jester I'm very happy with. The Schild Shiraz isn't quite as good as the Cab sauv but for $6, I have no complaints. I swapped a bottle of the SixfootSix with a co-worker (referral $$ yeah!) so I'm interested to see what it's like. I'm fussy with Pinots so it will be interesting!

Any ideas on the two black markets that came through this morning? WA cab merlot and the Barossa Shiraz?

For the BLACK MARKET DEAL Shiraz 2011 (vinomofo.com/deals/red-wine/mof_-black-market-deal-shiraz-2011-5f87badd?utm_source=Vinomofo&utm_campaign=2d76e795d2-Vinomofo+Campaign+2014-07-04+-+Black+Market+Friday&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7adb240a07-2d76e795d2-168970489) I'm guessing the 2011 Hewitson Truffle Row shiraz. I stress it's a guess. There's very little to go on. But a few things fit.

Hmm... yeah that could be it, although hard to tell as you say. If it's the Hewitson I'll give it a miss. I'm tempted to gamble on the 2009 Cab Merlot.

I took the gamble and ordered a case, as my experience with the Mitolo Jester CS was very positive and there are some great smaller wineries in the Mudgee area. Was dispatched on Friday so will know if the gamble paid off early next week.

pretty try sure this deal is back on again. $7.50/bottle - can't go wrong.

FYI, the mof_ SECRET DEAL Shiraz 2007 advertised today for $44.90 a bottle at:

mof_ SECRET Deal Shiraz 2007 - Red Wine

and described as:

"Just to give you some insight into how secretive we must be about this wine, Karel (mof_ Buyer/child of the 80s/has a beard) is currently sitting behind me dictating what I am and am not allowed to write. Honestly I'm surprised we're even allowed to say that this is a wine.

What we can tell you:

This secret deal is more undercover than Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop
This is one of Victoria's finest flagship Shiraz
It has an RRP of $90 per bottle
It scored a MASSIVE 96pts from James Halliday (which makes it one of our highest rated Secret Deals to date)
Plus it scored a massive 95pts from the boys at Wine Front
It was aged in the best barrels that this boutique 5 red star producer could muster
This has an incredible track record of cellaring and while delicious now, it's only going to get better over the coming decade
You are the ONLY wine buyers in the universe who can buy it for $45 less than the asking price
Don't even bother asking any more questions because there are very few people in this office who actually know what this is and the only way you'll find out is when it arrives on your doorstep. "

is the 2007 Turner's Crossing Vineyard The Cut Shiraz.

FYI, the mof_ SECRET DEAL Grenache Shiraz 2013 advertised today for $7.20 a bottle at:

Black Market Deal Grenache Shiraz 2013 - Red Wine

and described as:

"There is nothing sexier and more satisfying than a Grenache Shiraz in winter, especially if you seduced it into your cellar (which is my new way of saying “purchased”) for less than $7.50 a bottle.
Juicy to the absolute max, this is bright, fresh, rock ’n’ roll Grenache Shiraz and although we can’t give you the exact break down of the blend, it’s more than two thirds Grenache which explains the lushness. Karel (mof_ Buyer) has forbidden me to tell you who this is produced by, but what I can say is that the winemaker behind this vino is an absolute rockstar! He’s worked for some of Australia’s most iconic producers and worked for some of the world's most famous wineries.
So to sum this all up, you’ve got a ridiculously delicious Grenache Shiraz plus it was crafted by an industry legend and you’re buying it for less than $7.50. You do the math, but it sounds like an unmissable deal to me."

is very likely the 2013 Tapestry grenache shiraz.

Did yesterdays facebook sale bomb?
By the end not a single deal was sold out.
I agonised and bought 6 Semillon to top up my whites , but the rest….
I assume when stuff fails to sell on deals , it appears in mixed boxes.
Will Vim's success kill the really great deals as they are forced to go for larger volume lines to sell to the ever larger client base?
They have a growing group of home brands that don't appear to be setting the world on fire.

Besides the D'arenberg, which had been offered several times before, I didn't see anything worth purchasing.

Anyone knows what the current $9 pinot noir black market deal is?

Very few clues to go on. It's Victorian, RRP $30 (but this figure I find is usually inflated), a James Halliday 5 star medium sized winery.

Somewhat tempted.

They've had the sixfootsix before so it could be that? But that's only selling for $25/bottle at the moment direct from the producer.

Either way it was quite nice (quite fruity though).

And any ideas on the current black market chardonnay? $30 RRP for $9, from Victoria. Doesn't appear to be rated.
