Vinomofo Wine Deals

I can never come at the mixed cases, because if there's a wine you really like, you probably won't be able to replace it. And of course you hope there would be lots of wines you'd like...

Completely understand this - spent the first few years until recently buying singles and doubles while trying to build my cellar up. Now for each wine I open and really enjoy, I rue not having picked up more! Buying a case allows you to open a bottle or two while cellaring and watch the taste evolve.

Here it comes again, Hungerford Hill Collection Coonawarra CS. :)
I have been a mof_ from day dot and remember when ringing up you got andre diirect and one day he advised me that they had 40 wines across the tasting bench that week and only accepted 2 for sale. i suspect that ratio is probably reversed these days. It used to be very rare you got a dud wine now its very rare you get a gem (but they do turn up) . It takes a lot more research and cutting through the chaff to get to the grain.

Bodegas Castano Solanera Vinas Viejas 2012

Beautiful. Finely balanced, very fine tannin, long finish.
Agreed with Parker Jr (94 points) "it tastes like it should cost three to five times as much".
I will be getting some more. :D

I'm not sure about the 3-5 times valuation so much, but it's decent for the money, and quite interesting.

Did you also find the cork to be dead dry and cheap? Looks like it was stored upright, so I'm leaving them at the front of the cupboard :D

On the contrary I find the cork to be dense and of good quality with "The art of Monastrell" printed.
Reason there is no soak through is due to cork coating.
I also find the wine "interesting". ;)

That's some good news then. The bottom of the cork was dry, which seemed to indicate upright storage. It also came out very easily, but perhaps this is thanks to the coating too. I'll pull out another to examine :D

I bought a sixer based on your post, and definitely didn't end up disappointed or angry :p

By the way you are enjoying the wine, the cork quality is the least of your worries.
Wine finished before the cork "disintegrate". :p

Corks from Bodegas Castano Solanera Vinas Viejas 2012 and Anvers Warrior

The spanish cork less flexible, probably stored upright, finely filtered.
The Anvers Warrior (a very good drop, currently enjoying) is more typical, more springy, good quality, slightly soaked, residue and good dark crimson colour.

i was glad someone put an anvers warrior report together...i too bought the six pack and it's good to see that it's not just a stunning bottle, but a good drop. Now, how do you rate it in recent tastings say over the last month. name your best VM wines...it seems most of us can offer some sort of opinions on recent purchases, except the good Dr...i understand his settling down theory, but surely Dr you have had a few that you wished you had consumed earlier?

Very famous quote and I agree nearly 100% (I did once have a Merlot I liked!)
thru winemarket, late last year, i picked up many cases of a roger harbord merlot....a 2010 coonawarra wine. incredible wine made by an unknown who prefers racing dogs, but what a 9/10 merlot it has been....this was cutting thru the chaff, but i was so impressed.......i see todays VM has an unknown heathcote shiraz for about 11 i think it was....made by some polish folks. what is an embarrassment is when you do some background research on a new wine, and off to their website you go only to be confronted by obvious spelling and grammatical errors. This is simply unacceptable in this day and age, and these polaks stuffed up twice....if if wasn't for this, you may have been tempted at a mid thirty bucker, but not with disgraceful website production like they have...

as far as getting a straight great merlot, it's difficult.

The Anvers Warrior bottle is truly impressive, very heavy and very high push-up.
Definitely premium class bottle and wine.

Do inform of great merlot. Have yet to appreciate a straight merlot.
Normally blended, one that came to mind is Joseph Moda Amarone Cabernet Merlot.

I got some of the Moda via the sellout of Heritage Wines ( I think it was wineforlife) at about $18 a bottle (RRP about $70). This was the 2002, I wish I'd bought more but now have only 1 bottle left, totally my best value for money buy ever. Every bottle has been a true delight!

What a coincidence, that's where I got mine. Additionally only 1 bottle vintage 2000 left, and the LAST from Heritage Wines.
Still deciding when to open/finish. Those were the good old days.
Mouthpiece, Neck Oil, Secret Places, Nefertari, Nefertiti, Viking, Lost Wolf ....... :p

Heritage Wines reads like quite a story with some very lucky punters picking up cheap wine and others doing their shirts.

It is hardly a surprise that this boom has created a number of Australian wine investment companies, a trio of whom - Australian Portfolio Wines (portfoliowines.com.au), Heritage Fine Wines (heritagefinewines.com.au), Wine Orb (wineorb.com.au) - have employed decidedly questionable high pressure sales tactics. They also have disturbing links to UK scamsters who have moved to Australia to seek their fortune. See below for Something fishy about Oz wine investment companies? (UK scamsters and Australian wine investment companies) (Posted 5th April 2004).

Heritage and the sites selling ex-Heritage wines (winesforlife, cellarit) were for me the equivalent of Vinomofo for many years. All those you mention were great wines, for many years Nefertari, Nefertiti were my quaffers, and superb value they were!

Bringing it back to this thread though it does show theres always someone willing to sell the wines others have mispriced, but for the right price!
