Velocity Double Status Credits offer - 17 June till 12th July 2026

IMHO the only VA DSC offers worth using these days are the VA Holidays ones.
Yes, especially if you fly in J! My recent trip to Brisbane was under $800 inclusive of one night's stay at a 4* hotel. Earnt 160 SC which would have cost me $1920 under the current earn rate, plus let's say $250-$300 for a nice hotel room.

Why are they offering these almost useless DSC offers when they want to thin out the elites???

Maybe they don't want to thin out the elites. I don't think anyone at Virgin has ever said that's something they're looking to do. We're all just assuming it.

$$$$ DSC are revenue generating exercises.

Which isn't surprising since we're all assuming on QF's side they have soft forward domestic bookings because they have been running promotions non stop for a month now. Likely VA's side has also seen a softening of demand too.

Velocity’s former CEO explicitly told me that one of the reasons for the status changes was to reduce lounge overcrowding.

This promo is 100% aimed at addressing weak forward bookings for VA over the next month. I don’t think there’s any long-term strategy behind it in terms of the Velocity program. (If anything, having such regular DSC offers just undermines both VA and the Velocity program in the longer term.)

Absolutely, I booked Melbourne to Sunny Coast for later this year on DSC (VA Holidays), J in both directions, with family pooling.
That'll be 160 each way (320) x 2 = 640 status credits, bingo! That's most of what I need for the entire year to maintain Platinum.
So I've already secured Plat up until my review date this year (Aug), and most of what I need already for the following year.
If VA Holidays does DSC again, I can surprisingly see myself getting the Plat + and all those benefits...it doesn't offer (although the 75% marketed and flown by you might kill that).

I would say a large chunk (majority) of the population doesn't "chase" status. Thoughts? If this is the case, I'd still expect to see those numbers in the lounges continue to dwindle.

Perhaps that's why he's the former CEO. There may also have been some unintended consequences, and from my recent experience, I haven't noticed any reduction in the crowdedness of lounges.

What times do you normally fly, peak? I don't know if it's just me, but I do feel there is a slight drop in crowding during peak. Particularly in SYD and MEL. I find it relatively easy to get a seat now, which I like.
