Double points earn and half points upgrades... Good combo I think

Agree, Carlous, did a check on an October DJ PER-MEL Flexi on the coast to coast A330 for $305 = 4,575 pts for DJ Plat. and a 1/2 price upgrade is= 4,950 pts. Not bad at all.

Yes thanks to bullerdude also.

13.75 points per $ for Golds.
12.50 points per $ for Silver.
10 points per $ for Reds.

Nice work Sunstar - I should have laid it out in a table for all levels instead of being lazy

Seems like Reds will benefit nicely here - they will get the same number of points as Plats usually get.

To be fair Qantas did allow double points on all flights after the disruptions last year but that seems to be the exception.


I can't book any more flights as all my weekends are booked.

How about encouraging me for future bookings and rewarding me for being faithful? Of course loyalty means nothing and these promotions are always targetted at the wrong people.

I'm in the same boat - in September I am looking to book for July/August the next year.

If a promotion fits then great - if not then so be it, I won't complain.

I understand what they are doing - encouraging additional $$$ in the short term - which could be worrying in itself.

I saw the email and clicked through straight away. Like others here, have taken a screen shot just in case.

Now I'm thinking that my choice NOT to book flights to ADL and PER (with PER, I was going to use the VELPROMO offer) is now beneficial.

They certainly don't let the grass grow under their feet before making new offers.

There was some overlap - VELPROMO did not finish until 23:59 on the 28th - the promo this thread refers to is for bookings made from that date.

Alas, I only got my DVP promo email on 29/8 at 12.24pm, so there was no overlap for me. I was up at 10pm on 28th looking at the VELPROMO rates, but glad I had troubles with their system which stopped me booking - I got the same ticket in J through yesterday's Happy Hour sale for about the same cost (and have the piggy back Double Points offer instead )

i made a booking last night for end of october (SYD-HBA-SYD for those interested) yet i didnt register for the offer prior to making the booking...does that mean i won't be getting my double points?

Correct! You have to be registered prior to making the booking, no retrospective claims allowed!
I'm in the same boat, made two bookings minutes before reading the offer. . .. oh well.

Their second half results where QF really got themselves into gear were terrible. They are probably trying to bank some dollars quickly.

I guess the customer wins, but it really is starting to devalue the Velocity brand / points / status considerably - they are training people to expect double this, free that , half points this on a regular occurance - its a really hard and vicious cycle to break.

I believe you are still eligible for double points. There is no mention of booking after registering. Only mention of registering by a certain date, bookings between certain dates and flying between certain dates to be eligible.

*This offer is valid for members who travel on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and operated flights. Codeshare services operated by partner airlines are not eligible for this offer. Eligible flights are flights on which Velocity Points can be earned, and booked in a fare class that normally accrues Points. To earn double Points, members must register for this offer before 27 September 2012, book between 28 August 2012 and 30 September 2012 inclusive for travel between 01 October 2012 and 30 November 2012 inclusive. Single or return sectors qualify, flown in either direction. Double Points will be applied to base Points only, and any applicable tier bonus will not attract extra Points as a result of this offer. Double Points will be applied to original fare class purchased. Subject to other promotional eligibility criteria, normal Velocity rules apply to retrospective Points claims.

Just make sure you register for the promotion.

I did the same thing. I booked flights and then registered for the promotion. If I try to register again then I get a message that I have already registered. So I think this will be a case of

- Registered during specified time frame?
- Booked within specified time frame?
- Flights within specified time frame?

If yes to all 3 points then eligible for double points for those flights. I do not believe they are going to check registration time against booking time if within specified times.

Has anybody got the double points yet? Or has anybody not got them, when they thought they should. I thought i had done everything correctly. Registered, booked and flown within the required dates. But the double points aren't there. Anybody else in the same boat?

Hey Dobby, had the same issue. Called up Velocity and apparently for the extra points bonus, it will take until DECEMBER to have them credited. Goodness knows why it will take so long but it's somewhere in the terms and conditions...?
