Velocity Double Points Promotion 28 Aug - 30 Sep 2012 and fly 01 Oct- 30 Nov 2012

Hi All,
Does this mean that DJ Plats by registering would earn the double Velocity Points on Virgin Australia flights depending on the $s spent + 100% extra points (double as usual) on the value of the base $s spent?

For platinum's it is effectively 15*$ value instead of 10*$. For those of you who have not seen the promotion yet: Double Velocity Points Promotion | Velocity Frequent Flyer

Seems like I will have too cancel and rebook some business flights to get the bonus points. Typical for VA to release a new promotion days after I book a number of flights...

Typical that only new flight bookings count towards the promotion.

In a business sense it's very fair - It's obvious they are trying to encourage new bookings.

It's only base points that the double is earned on and not the plat bonus, a plat effectively gets triple points.

It's basically what Hilton does, I am sure that's where they got the idea or terminology, it would be nice if the promo was retrospective like Hilton. The call centre is now going to get a lot of calls for people in flexi and above rebooking.

I just booked SYD-ZQN-SYD a few days ago. I don't think I will cancel and rebook as I will cop the cancellation fee and also the fare is higher now for the date I want to travel, So I don't think it's worth the cost.

Not too impressed here either - just booked flights on 25 August which fall in the promotion period, and same as k3nnis, not worth cancelling and rebooking due to fees and fare differences.

Would be interested to know when this promotion actually went up on the web page as I received an email from Velocity about something else yesterday, but no notification of this offer - so it's a bit difficult to take advantage of it if you don't know about it!!

I picked it up last night when I opened the Velocity page and saw a new advertisement (new to me, anyway) in the first of the five or so slides Velocity run on the home page. This one was about Earning points with every day partners. - Then, Chance to win a trip of a lifetime The SQ logo caught my eye - as I would like to earn more with SQ - Followed the links to the big offer. I really appreciate your explanation bullerdude. The 15*$pent = x pts is a really useful formula an clear tip. I've put it into my excel spreadsheet - for ooking around the website for fares during the promotion dates, PJ

13.75 points per $ for Golds.
12.50 points per $ for Silver.
10 points per $ for Reds.

To be fair Qantas did allow double points on all flights after the disruptions last year but that seems to be the exception.

In a business sense it's very fair - It's obvious they are trying to encourage new bookings.

I can't book any more flights as all my weekends are booked.

How about encouraging me for future bookings and rewarding me for being faithful? Of course loyalty means nothing and these promotions are always targetted at the wrong people.
