Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

Speaking to a coworker that had AZ#1 on Thursday and he had the entire list of side affects. Fever, headache, unable to concentrate, shivering, high and low temps - was using Dr Google and contemplating a trip to hospital but seems to be over the worse, although I would say he still looks pale today.

His wife, after seeing this, cancelled her AZ booking this morning.
That’s unfortunate. And I can understand reluctance to get the second one.

really feel quite strongly that employers (or government) should be offering up a few days of paid vaccination leave to encourage uptake-
As do I. I can understand a self employed person who needs to do work to be paid would be very reluctant to get the vax if worried about missing work, and thus their income. I’d like the Govt to give everyone a days pay regardless of whether they are ill or not because the cost to the economy of a Covid wave is much worse.

....... really feel quite strongly that employers (or government) should be offering up a few days of paid vaccination leave to encourage uptake- either people use it to rest up and recover or the lucky ones get a few paid days off to enjoy. I had a week of unpaid leave and then several days of dragging myself to work feeling like hot garbage; not unreasonable that people might decide not to bother
No problem with us taking paid leave (WFH following if needed) for our jabs, I took a paid carers day to baby sit hubby when he got his 1st shot. I was expecting our HR to arrange jabs in our office as done with flu shots but Im guessing access/availability/this isnt a normal flu shot/needs special storage & security is an issue.

I think there’s a series of complications, i suspect the major one being supply of the “universal” (Pfizer) vaccine (I imagine it would be too much of a pain to do 2 brands of vaccine in anything other than a very large workplace), in addition to the fact that it doesn’t really seem to be available “on the market” so much as distributed by governments, which is limiting the ability of the bulk of workplaces fo organise specific drives.

These things will no doubt improve with time

That is unfortunate, and would hope that people don't cancel bookings for common known potential side effects. For what it is worth the Pfizer jab is not free of side effects either.
1st one for me had headache and then minor fatigue for about a week.
2nd one had no headache but restless night sleep, sore lymph nodes in neck and armpit, sore arm and general cloudy feeling.

Of course, in hindsight, they should have gone together for the vax. 😉.

So what is her plan, now?
My husband and I had our jabs a week apart just in case one of us was unwell from it. I thought its smarter to have them separately.

Mum in law is in her 90s and had hers about 10 days ago and she was complaining of being unwell but as I reminded hubby, she had chemo 3 days earlier so most prob was the effects of chemo more than the AZ. She seems OK now and has an appetite again (which is a concern due to her weight).

I can't wait for my second AZ shot on Friday, even though they introduced the age restrictions after I had my first shot.
Same with Ms FM (and as a 29 year old female, she is well and truly in the “vulnerable” zone for clots). They changed the rules a few days after she got her first AZ shot, but she had no hesitation in turning up for her second on Saturday.

Worked for you, but that strategy is not looking good for your co-worker’s wife at this stage. ☹️

At this stage the TGA has not authorised the mixing of vaccines

Due to supply constraints with alternate vaccines, not because it is dangerous.

It was well reported that Moderna has been ordered for boosters for those who got AZ vaccines this year, so they are planning to mix vaccines eventually.

No they have not authorised the mixing period.I have spoken directly with the physician in charge of the vaccine advisory group on this subject.Tasmanian doctors were emailed this advice from the Health department this morning.

No they have not authorised the mixing period.

But they plan to eventually, as the Moderna intent is a matter of public record. And they cant approve mixed use right now as if they did, then no one would continue with AZ and the supply issue will be exacerbated further.

Nothing I said is untrue .

Overseas jurisdictions where they also changed the advice on AZ, younger people were allowed to switch to Pfizer even though they had already had a AZ dose, so safety info is available if they *wanted* to look into it.

The booster dose is entirely a different subject to the mixing of vaccines for primary vaccination.
Whether you like it or not it is the STRONG recommendation of ATAGI that if you have had your first dose of AZ you should have AZ as your second dose.

And I didn't say it was recommended now, just that their advice is not based on it being unsafe. You are arguing a case I never made.

I have my folks booked in for their second dose on Thursday (after having to overcome the inability for GP to keep an appointment), but I also know a 50 something kiwi who is flatly refusing to get second AZ and if Aus government wont give him Pfizer before he is eligible in NZ, he is planning to go home to NZ to get Pfizer.

ATAGI and the government may be recommending that all those who have had a first AZ get a second AZ dose, but not everyone will follow that advice, so eventually they are going to have to work out how to mix vaccines.

I made a statement of fact.you are the one arguing and I have to make the presumption you think I am wrong.
If you have had your first dose of AZ without problems it is not dangerous to have the second AZ dose. And it is Strongly recommended by ATAGI.

Because you quoted my post about boosters then went on the imply i had made a comment about current approvals.

And again nothing I said was to the contrary.

Although I believe there is still some chance of a negative reaction from the second dose, despite not having one after the first, but its much smaller.

I have posted previously that a friend of mine had no major issues after having first moderna dose, but had a anaphylactic reaction after the second one.

One day you may work out why you can be irritating.
I made a statement of fact and you replied about boosters which was absolutely nothing to do with my statement.

3 days after second shot I got an email saying ‘vaccination status status is available to view’ in MyGov. I now have ‘COVID-19 digital certificate’ in my Medicare app stating ‘This individual has received all required COVID-19 vaccines.’

Now if only there was someone to show it to.
