Do VA plats have access to delta lounges when on domestic delta flights in the US.

Had a San Fran - Salt lake flight, but was told no lounge access.

Never not had access.

SFO did try once but I got them to look it up.

It's about the only partner program of Delta that does not require an international flight and that seems to confuse the agents.

You do need to complain to Virgin Australia, so that may hopefully result in re-education of the SFO agents.

DL are incorrect on this occasion. I have previously received access to the SFO Sky Club prior to a wholly domestic DL itinerary.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Had a friend the other day in the exact same situation … the lounge agent told them some BS about a recent change in policy that only coast to coast and pax on a international connection..

Sounds like the SFO staff need a kick in the cough

The trouble is the staff are not used to such access ... There is generally a restriction for most partners so they assume there is such for VA but there is not.

Here's Delta's website entry for VA: ( https://www.delta.com/content/www/e...ircraft/delta-sky-club/glossary-of-terms.html )

Virgin Australia Club access

Virgin Australia/Velocity VIP Platinum card, Platinum card or Gold card members traveling on a flight operated by Delta or Virgin Australia Airlines must show membership card for lounge access. Virgin Australia Business class passengers must show same-day business class boarding pass for lounge access.

Considering DL has all the required data in the system(VA status and flight information) one would expect a big airline like DL would have some sort of automated process for access to remove the human factor

DL were definitely wrong on this. I had access in LAX, ATL, DTW, MSP, BOS and SEA on domestic itineraries just last month.

I've never had issues either and I've been through SFO, LAX, SEA, SLC, ATL and BOS.

What DL need on the web page is a note to differentiate VA based access because it is uncommon for a Delta partner. e.g. Something like:
Virgin Australia Club access

Virgin Australia/Velocity VIP Platinum card, Platinum card or Gold card members traveling on a flight operated by Delta or Virgin Australia Airlines must show membership card for lounge access. Virgin Australia Business class passengers must show same-day business class boarding pass for lounge access. Note: This access is available irrespective of itinerary (domestic/international/trans-continental).

IME state the following - "Virgin Australia is NOT a member of Skyteam, it is a joint venture partner with Delta and Skyclub, and lounge access is based on Skyclub rules NOT Skyteam rules, can you please check on your computer or call your supervisor?" Only had to do it once, took quite a few key strokes from the agent but I got in (can't remember where it was).

FYI: Skyteam rules (unlike oneworld) prohibit status based lounge access to ALL (not just N.A. card holders) on domestic flights, which is why many DL lounge agents automatically say no - not realising that the VA/DL joint venture is different, but after a few clicks, their computer systems will advise them so!

Indeed, I believe that VA status is the only partner status that allows lounge access on domestic travel on DL. Outside the biggest DL hubs they probably rarely see VA status, so I'm not surprised that sometimes the agents are confused. Of course they ought to be informed.

I was impressed I haven't had issues, initially I was ready to go to battle but even at IND they were happy to wave me in.

What's interesting is that the boarding pass with our VA status is not enough. They always ask for the Velocity card and swipe it.

For what it's worth, American Express Platinum also gets Delta lounge access with a same-day flight including arrivals. I know quite a number of members hold one so I thought I'd mention it.

On the few times they've put up a fight when trying to enter with my Velocity card (or when operating in that month long review period while waiting for a new card), I've just pulled out the Amex and entered with that.

Good one !!!
I will note this down for upcoming LAX, JFK, ATL, MCO, MSY and ORD !!!

Just make sure you dont hand over your card with the Visa side up. They might think that you're trying to pay for access.

FYI I do not believe this works with the Velocity-branded Platinum AMEX... just a full AMEX branded Plat card. If someone could confirm that would be good. Also, same day Delta flight only.
