If you clear customs then you might have trouble getting back in airside because check in will be closed until the morning.

Wouldn't you get your onward boarding pass from AKL printed at RAR and any bags through-checked? Shouldn't need check-in to be open.

My mistake, I thought the OP was flying in from Australia and turning around again.

So I had J SYD-MEL-AKL-RAR-AKL-MEL-SYD booked departing today.

Over night VA cancelled VA804 (SYD-MEL) flight, so the system then rebooked me on SYD-AKL, as an alternative, meaning less SC.

I rang VA, which was quite interesting trying to explain to them why I only want to go via MEL. But they said there we no other options due to 6am departure and needing to make the connection in Mel.

In the end I realised l already have enough SC to earn platinum so the extra Sc (50SC/100SC) mean nothing to me.

Silver lining is I now get a 10am departure from SYD (vs 6am) and get to spend time in “The House”, which with my international transfer in MEL would probably not have allowed time for.

You should be able to call after you take the flights and they post to be able to claim the missing points.

Ie the points should post based on the original routing.

I had this happen when my HKG flight to Sydney via Melbourne got changed to Sydney direct, it was a freedom booking and I got the extra 20 points at the time after I called when the points posted.

Anyone had the extra points credited yet?

I have a couple of flights done under the booking window which attracted 50SC each leg (CBR=MEL) but not sure if that was what I would normally get or if that's double already?

Looks double to me a freedom fair would be 25 status credits normally

If flying Business Saver - that's the base SC, DSC yet to post
If flying Freedom - that would be including DSC

The actual silver lining is you're still entitled to the SC as booked but can spend less time on a plane.

Once the status credits posts, call VA and ask for Original Routing Credit and the appropriate DSC to match. You may need to provide your itinerary and boarding passes so hold onto them.

My recent DSC flights posted nicely:

26 May 1929 May 19Virgin Australia, VA0981, Sydney-Brisbane+545+14
24 May 1927 May 19Virgin Australia, VA0966, Brisbane-Sydney+545+14

14 May 1917 May 19Virgin Australia, VA0353, Melbourne-Brisbane+2,364(1,351 + 1,013 Bonus)+40
13 May 1916 May 19Virgin Australia, VA0308, Brisbane-Melbourne+2,364(1,351 + 1,013 Bonus)+40

I know I have another booked in August that was in the DSC...think it’s this promo and not the earlier one.

Finally got around to checking my flights above. Yes, the fare basis was Elevate (Q), so DSC was calculated correctly to my MEL trip; whilst my SYD trip was Getaway (M/S), so 14 is correct as the doubled figure. Bonus 54 SC's well worth it.

I use this tool to calculate (in the results page it quotes the fare codes): Qantas and Virgin Australia Points/Status Credit Calculator

Two more sectors coming up (PER/MEL/BNE) as I ticketed these 20 mins before the cut-off (midnight 27 May). Both Elevate (Q), so (30+20) x 2 will really help towards Gold re-qual.

Interesting, not seen this tool previously. Still, I know the developer of my tool (an AFF’er) and happy to utilize whilst they are still happy to keep up to date.

@alexy23 Did you manage to claim the Original Routing Credit and appropriate DSC? I'm about the face the same issue due to a cancelled flight today and a large part of the trip was to get the SC from the now-missing extra leg.

Originally CBR-MEL-ADL, the CBR-MEL leg has been cancelled so they rebooked CBR-ADL direct.

I had this very same issue on Sunday night. Had booked CBR-MEL-ADL with DSC and the CBR-MEL leg was delayed and I wouldn’t have made my connection so was placed on the direct CBR-ADL flight. SC’s posted early Wednesday morning and I phoned up on my lunch break. Spent about 5 minutes tops on the phone and DSC’s adjusted on the spot.

I had a similar issue in June but not sure if I'm entitled to get original routing SC as I requested an earlier direct flight at the airport?

Is the earlier CBR-MEL flight at 3 pm an option for you?

Unfortunately wasn't going to be able to make it.

That's good to hear! I'll give them a call when the credits post. Fingers crossed!

Funny I just logged into my Velocity account tonight and noticed that under the list of "My Offers" activated, there is a "Book Now" button still appearing against this Double Status Credits Offer even though it was for bookings until 27 May... I didn't try but anyone else seeing this in their Velocity profile?
