I have tried to interpret all the info but I am still none the wiser. Will be having Hong Kong stopover then the following & want to know what access will be available.
Flying Finair Hong Kong to Helsinki-what lounge access prior to flight
On way home: Arrive Singapore on Finnair then depart later on Qantas that night/
Any help appreciated. Flights are in economy

As a Qantas Club member, you only have access to QF, BA, AA or US lounges when flying with those airlines. You don't get any lounge access by way of Qantas Club membership when flying AY (FinnAir). Lounge access is always based on departing flight.

So when arriving into SIN and connecting to a Qantas flight, you have access to the QF/BA business class lounge at SIN. No lounge access at HEL.

If you have OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald (QF Gold or Platinum) FF status, then you get access to any OneWorld Lonuge when flying on a OneWorld operaetd and marketed flight.

NM's info is correct as above.

An option at Hong Kong is the "Plaza Premium" lounge. Its an independently run lounge (well, they actually have two locations) at HKIA. They also have a massage chair room and juice bar…

These lounges also participate in the Priority Pass programme (which also has a lounge at Helsinki’s Vantaa International (membership info available at www.prioritypass.com). If a lounge is a must have, you’ll have to pay for it.

Purchase of Qantas Club Membership

I notice there are 2 prices for Life QF Club membership.
AUD 4200 if "you are a resident of Australia for Australian income tax purposes" and AUD 3820 if you're not.
I'm a resident here and have a TFN, but do not work nor intend to for a few more years(uni studnet).
Which do I pay for when I decide to buy the membership..? (somtime this year)

Thanks!

raccoon111, you're deemed to be an Australian resident for tax purposes (even though you aren't current earning), so the higher price is applicable.

The non-resident rate is for overseas based pax. You would have to declare to the ATO that you are becoming a non-resident for tax purposes and have any income earned taxed at the higher non-resident rates (no tax free threshold and higher tax rates). Not really very beneficial...

The price difference is the GST. If you are an Australian resident, you have to pay the GST included amount.

"Resident for Tax Purposes" is a difficult issue to explain in a posting. However, the advise given here is correct only under certain circumstances that are covered by three tests used by the ATO. As the PRIMARY purpose of being is Australia is study, you may get around it.

"Non-residents for Tax Purposes" pay a flat tax rate and do not enjoy the tax-free threshhold.

I suggest you check with a good tax accountant or at least, read the information on residency status on the ATO web site. You could just apply for the card online and use your overseas credit card and address... If you are a resident for tax purposes though, doing this would of course be illegal.

I am not sure te above is correct.

QF club membership is slightly different to the QF Club Membership you gain from flying status ie Gold FF or Platinum FF.

I would check with QF.

I have used their lounges at times when not flying with a One World airline. In any case, Finair is part of Oneworld

The above is indeed correct.

Nope, the QF Club membership gained by being Gold or Platinum is identical to the paid membership, in that you gain access to QF, BA, AA and US lounges when flying on those airlines on that day.

QF Gold and Platinum also gain access to other oneworld lounges, namely Cathay, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair and Lan Chile, by virtue of their oneworld status, this is because they are sapphire and emerald respectively, absolutely ZILCH to do with their QC membership.

(As an aside, it is the QC membership, not oneworld status, which gets Gold's and Platinum's into US lounges, other OW elites do not have this benefit).

Not quite, the access rules are different in that domestically you might not even need to be travelling on the day to get access, which is handy if you are meeting a collegue and they are on a plane that is late!

Gold do not get access to lounges when not travelling, only Platinum, and this is by virtue of the oneworld Emerald status. BA and AA offer the same facility to their emeralds, not sure about the other oneworld airlines.
