Well first I don't think many Australians got Hydroxychloroquine because Trump said it was good.probably beause QLD doctors have gone public.

Been on the news up here every night of the week.

Second there are literally a hundred trials going on using hydroxychloroquine which suggest quite a few experts believe it is likely to be successfulPlus small studies have already suggested a benefit in treatment.Sure they are small trials and not conclusive at all but certainly a pointer to further studies.
And from the CDC-
"A study in China reported that chloroquine treatment of COVID-19 patients had clinical and virologic benefit versus a comparison group, and chloroquine was added as a recommended antiviral for treatment of COVID-19 in China [6]. Based upon limited in-vitro and anecdotal data, chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine are currently recommended for treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in several countries."
"Due to higher in-vitro activity against SARS-CoV-2 and its wider availability in the United States compared with chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine has been administered to hospitalized COVID-19 patients on an uncontrolled basis in multiple countries, including in the United States. "

There is a large study based in the USA to collate experiences with the use of hydroxychloroquine in treatment AND prevention.

Then there is a letter to Pres.Trump from the AAPS including this-
"We thank you for helping to make the long-established anti-malarial drugs chloroquine and
hydroxychloroquine available for treating COVID-19. In our opinion, a “compassionate-use exception” is
not needed because these drugs are already approved for another use. It would be needed for a not-
yet-approved drug such as resdemivir."

Third the fellow that died was because he drank fish tank cleaner which contains chloroquine not hydroxychloroquine.funny I can find no reference for Pres.Trump saying drink fish tank cleaner

And it's use for Covid-19 treatment is because stocks in Australia have virtually disappeared meaning patients that really need plaquenil for their autoimmune disease can't get it.

And finally I don't know where you get your 42% from.In the USA Pres.trump's approval rating is now over 50%.

Trump strikes again! USA now has the highest number of COVID-19 cases, and has surpassed 1000 deaths.

If this is handling the crisis well then I’d hate to see it handled badly.

Moody I suggest you find Nancy Pelosi's Final House Bill on the making of emergency supplemental appropriations for this fiscal year.Easy read only 1120 pages on her ideas of what should have been added to Pres.Trumps stimulus bill. Then read it and come back to say you agree with everything she says.
Basically it delayed the bill which was urgently needed and quite probably swung November's vote back to Pres.Trump wheen he has been looking vulnerable.

And note what Dr.Fauci the Director of the NIH for Allergies and infectious diseaes says about Pres.Trump in the interview I have posted on another virus thread.Pres.Trump has done everything we have asked him to do which is scientifically based. He has not gone and done things we have said are not science based. His only complaint is the way he says things.

And France,Spain and Italy have a worse problem than the USA.Italy with less than 20% of the US population has over 5 times the deaths.

100,000 cases now in a country that views universal health care as an anathema. Over 130 deaths overnight in New York alone, which has a lower population than Australia.

This is going to end badly for the USA, but in times of strife people are often reluctant to change leaders - so this could be a godsend for Trump.

Based on previous political analysis...

if its a recession or depression then there will be a new President/change of government

if its wartime then there will be same President/no change of government.

@tgh I realise that lol.

I guessed last time against the polls that Trump would get in. At this point it’s Trump to win again.

But I think if lots of people die in his Republican states (ie swing states) then it might be a different story.

I‘m thinking 10,000 people dying in NY (safe Democrat state) will make no difference.

There is no doubt that universal healthcare is anathema to the US which still has around 65% covered through employer schemes. Less than 10% of the population does not have any cover, but the crucial factor that prevents wholesale change seems to be about the $. The current cost of medical services in the US per person is about twice that of Australia (USD$10k per person US, USD$5k per person Australia).

We all know that in times of a crisis support for the leaders get a great boost. But not necessarily a year later in the cold light of day.

Churchill had massive support while the war was on but loss the election in the peace, so it no given such support lasts.

Gallup poll: 60% approve of Trumps handling of virus crisis ( ie Independents and Democrats must be in that number)

Gallup have also stated that every presidents rating have jumped significantly in similar events, their analysis is its people getting behind the president as a sign of patriotism. This support general only lasts as long as the crisis lasts.

So would that mean Trump’s strategy is to make it last until November (it’s a mandatory Election Day, right? ie they can’t constitutionally move the date?)

edit: according to wikipedia, its a federal law and can extend to first Wednesday in December Election Day (United States) - Wikipedia

George W. Bush had an almost 40% bump in his approval rating after 9-11 to around 90%. DJT has a way to go to achieve that ...

The best thing for a flagging leader is a war. He has a lot of options that he can take to start one of those.
