Nice to see a successful F, what other airlines and how far out?

Early August to LHR, Early Sept to JFK and return late Oct. BA to/from JFK and it looks like i should get the chance to compare BA 747 v 777 which was something i wanted to do as well.

Just booked a trip for 2 in April next year (been waiting for what seems like forever for dates to become bookable)

All in J, 110,000 and $219.43 each (points all from share promo...bargain)
SYD-BNE QF
BNE-HKG CX Stopover
HKG-LAX CX Destination
LAX-HKG CX
LAX-SYD CX

Had to HUACA, both calls about 20mins long, second one a few minutes longer to ticket and pay.Had me nervous after the first, but second was like stealing candy from a baby...

1st agent (I think she was either an AA agent or Arizona, didn't ask) came back from the rates desk saying it was illegal - exceeding MPM and also can't go via Asia). Reason I say AA is that when I asked her how the new system was, she replied there was no new system.

2nd agent was from North Carolina (AMEN!). She was very southern and kept muttering throughout the call that the new system was horrible. Came back from rates desk no problems.

technically speaking SYD-BNE-HKG-LAX exceeds MPM by about 100 miles :( but glad it was sorted out on the second call :)

Booked MEL- LHR - MEL on QF 9 & 10 F for two. Initially had MEL - LHR (des) - FRK (stopover) - LHR - MEL. Because it involves BA... there is a massive fuel surcharge. The US airway agent said that if i take BA, they will add the QF YQ to the tickets as well !!!! (which is $981!!!!)... put the ticket on hold and tried 3 agents... even asked for the rate desk and come back with the same answer :( so dropped BA segments.... and priced without any YQ.... ticketed as i don't want to waste more time....

Also booked on MEL-HKG-PVG (STOP) - NRT (DES) - HKG - MEL on CX (4) and JL (1). Relatively painless... priced at 90k + $150. ticketed that for easter next year ;)

It seems ever since TPG posted 'No YQ on BA through US', the system now automatically adds YQ from ALL FLIGHTS (CX, QF) when you have a BA segment or going through London....you would have to tell the agent to go to rate desk and take off QF etc YQ manually and add only BA YQ....

No luck so far with Guam as it all goes to rate desk which comes back at 120k :S It only exceeds MPM by about 300% :S
When they were in *a, i booked about 6 GUM tickets.... 2 for friends, 2 for me and 2 for my in laws. That was the best times....

what were the taxes on this one?

I'm planning a SYD-MEL-DBX-LHR-PRG (open jaw) VIE-LHR-DBX-SYD for May 2015 so it's quite relevant...thanks for posting!

The tax is $488 pp via London.

Note to AVOID BA - i know they are NOT meant to add YQ from QF but i was not so successful to get them to add only BA YQ :( The $488 is still way cheaper than QF YQ ;)

After numerous calls and struggling to find get Oneworld flights ticketed due to 'only transit in Oneworld hub' rule, managed to book with USDM's other partners for 2 pax to travel in July:

MEL-PVG CA whY (no J :()
PVG - MXP CA J destination
MXP - PVG CA J stopover
PVG - AKL NZ J
AKL - MEL whY

90k miles pp (I was expecting 120k) + $160 in taxes pp. Agent made a comment on how direct the routing is and how she missed how easy to work out routing with *A compared to Oneworld.

Interesting since none of these carriers belong to oneworld :)

are the air china flights to MXP on an a330 200 or 300? the 300s are angled lie flats, a little brutal :(

Sorry but I'm a bit confused. You dropped the BA segments or the QF segments? Who's fuel surcharge did u end up paying? Just BA? Who is cheaper and how do I find out how much it would be? I am hoping to do a similar route to you so I'm wanting to understand the charges to help me work out what route to do. If we avoid BA and LHR do we avoid theses massive charges?

can someone please advise if the following route is permitted for 90k in j class.

kul-hkg

Narita and Haneda are co-terminals, just like EWR and JFK or LGW and LHR. It's not an open jaw

it is not uncommon for agents to be unaware that NRT/HND are co-terminals.

If you run into that problem, ask them to read back the airport you are flying into and out of... so get them to say Tokyo Narita and Tokyo Haneda.

The penny always drops :)
