So whos going to be the first AFFer to attempt to book a GUM F redemption? There have been numerous successful J bookings.....

It's definitely on my bucket list once I've completed by J redemption in January!

It's only 40k miles return pp and you should be able to route through TG's A380 destinations of HKG or NRT!

It required call centre bingo with three agents but I'm pleased to advise it's possible to ticket in F for 40,000 points. Routing is SYD-BKK-KIX-GUM around Easter next year.

There wasn't availability BKK-NRT on A380 for the dates I was looking at so routed via KIX instead. The last leg is in J on the 737 compared to the 777 on NRT-GUM route.

Didn't try and build in a stopover as it's a short trip, and counted myself pretty fortunate to be able to ticket at that price so didn't want to push my luck.

A friend and I did it last Easter.

SYD-BKK TG F
BKK-KIX TG F (15 hour transit KIX, train to Kyoto, sightseeing etc)
KIX-GUM UA J (5 nights GUM)
GUM-NRT UA J
NRT-ICN OZ F (overnight transit ICN, Korean BBQ etc)
ICN-HKG TG J (23 hr 40 mins transit in HKG, shopping etc)
HKG-BKK TG F (A380)

Good fun, a bit like a road trip by plane.

WOW!

Nice work!

Im thinking of an F redemption next year with hopefully a HKG stopover.

Can I ask, was the ICN detour to experience OZ F worth it? NRT-ICN looks like a very short flight and you could have cut out a lot of time by simply flying GUM-HKG direct on UA J. Or was it because you wanted to experience ICN?

How many calls did it take to find an agent who would ticket this? Did they quote 120K and then you had to correct them? Did you think to try for a stopover or did they know the rules?

I had a very specific time frame as I normally have a commitment on Thurs night and Friday but not at Easter.

I selected the itinerary to maximise the F class experience and also to get as many long transits as possible. I stuck to the rules re no stopovers. By going to ICN I was able to schedule arrival in HKG just under 24 hours before my chosen flight out to BKK. Also from memory there were no award seats direct to HKG for that day. ICN was fun, arrived mid afternoon, booked local hotel with free shuttle, went to BBQ restaurant down the block, good night's sleep and mid morning flight to HKG. Bit like staying in a country town on a road trip and going out for a pub or club meal.

Did it all on the first call. I didn't let them even begin to think it might be more than 40k, said things like I would like to book 2 persons first class Sydney to Guam, that's a within South Pacific award isn't it. Then said its a bit complicated to get to there I have some suggestions. For the two overnights I made a point of saying they were transits less than 24 hours, deliberately did not use the "s" word.

Having spent some time looking for availability on all the possible routes from SYD - GUM for my specific dates and then choosing the most fun one I didn't want to complicate it by trying to push the boundaries.

Looks like this one is a bit more limited. Seems like very few on FT got it.

Damnit! Couldn't take advantage of the August promo due to the 12 day waiting period, and the next promo is targeted only. Will have to wait a bit longer...

I just joined in August and although the 12 days wait meant I could buy on the promotion by the end of the month I didn't. Haven't got the latest targeted offer and logged on today to check.

Buy a very small amount as bait.

I just did that today as I did not get the targetted offer this week. I figure for the next promotion if they set up the parameters to only offer to those who have purchased or already hold miles I should get an offer.

I know it's kinda weird to be "inspired" by a frequent flyer miles redemption, yet, here we are. :D

Hi all,
Hoping someone might be able to help.
I am looking to go one way from Dub - Mel (any route) in J or F next July. It is for 2 passengers and I have 150000 miles, im just wondering if that amount of miles will be enough for that kind of redemption, iv not booked a reward with Us airways before. Is there a route like that available in peoples experiene, i can easily get a flight to LHR and start my journey there.

Is my best option to simply ring the reward line?

Any help would be great, many thanks

No.. Sorry! The USDM program doesn't offer one-way redemptions.. well.. it DOES but they cost the same as a return.. in this case 120,000 (J) or 150,000 (F) miles per person Europe-Australia....
