This is amazing!! and even if i have to pay full price for the 20K points it still puts the J fares from MEL - CDG in the 2K bucket not the 7K bucket for retail

Also do the miles have an expiry? is this something i can build up over time?

if they expire can i just flick some rental car points to the account to keep it fresh?

Thanks

miles expire after 18 months of no activity on the account (its not a rolling 18 months, they just go in total from the last day of activity). Even if they are about to expire you can pay USD9 to have them reset for another 18 months! (the $9 fee is outlined on the US Airways dividend miles page on their website)

You can also bring down the average price of your miles Mikal by getting some cheap ones by participating in the Grand Slam promotion if its run later in the year as it was the last couple of years... Hopefully they will do it again and not take out more of the cheap, easy hits...

If you share miles, how long does it take for the miles to hit the recipient's account? It is not instantaneous as I found out tonite....

It should be instant - mine was. I logged out and log back into the account and they were there...

It can be up to 3 days.

Usually by next business day IME.

I shared from A and B account to C account yesterday. First share transaction the points posted almost immediately ie log out/in and it was there. The second transaction took around 8 hours to post.

Keep in mind that the uplift bonus is only once, so as per my post above:

My calculations: 79,999 -> 94,999 (so that's the 15k bonus) which then becomes 142498 US Dividend Miles.
vs
60,000 -> 75,000 which then becomes 112,500, plus another 20,000(+5,000) which then becomes 137500 US Dividend Miles.

Note that all the values above are SPG (so have already moved over the AMEX MR).
Yes, I don't think we are equating apples with apples, if you want to transfer ~ 80K SPG points (or in your example 79,999) then doing as one transfer as you suggest is clearly the way to go. And for many this may be what they want/need to do to get to say 120K for a Europe J flight or $150K for Europe F flight.

My comparison was to illustrate the increment value of transferring 60K vs 79,999 SPG proints (or 120K vs 159,998 MR points) and to illustrate the first 60K provide the most value. I certainly wasn't suggesting a second transfer!

Given 120K MR --> 60K SPG --> 112.5K would leave some tantalising close I can see why some might want that to transfer a bit more and if so they should do in one transfer. But without a specific target I'd probably only be going for the 60K threshold.

Any ideas?

So I'm reading articles online and there is gossip about US airways merging with AmericanAirlines

*A merging with OW does this mean that US will go to OW or the other way around

Also I am so over QFF and their ridiculous redemption rate. It seems that other programs are so much better

I just want a program I can build up points and take the occasional surprise J. Flight with my partner and I don't thinkQFF is the one

Any suggestions or should I just hang out for a good DM bonus for purchasing

Regards
Mikal

Where's the T&C requiring the US/Canada number?

My heart sank before I read that it also applies to existing members of points.com (of which I am, woo hoo!). But then my heart sank again because I know I've got no money to buy points! Damn! :(

Anyway, how much are points now, all inclusive? I've lost track...

Plenty of ways to keep the points rolling over, answering Audiance Rewards trivia now and then is a good start.

When you enrol, if you try to enter a phone number not of USA/Canada, red marker appears. The red marker (USA/Canada number) might have just been applied because of the million point prize for joining up promo at the moment)

Google one and add it, I've never been phoned!

Yeah, I took a punt and did that. I googled my own name, and what do know you...

Good timing for the promo. l think l'll settle for a J SYD-Europe in July. Might have to lock something in because of the Olympics, hopefully it's not too late.
