I use the KVS tool and find it very helpful, and have been able to look, book and upgrade simultaneously!
I have just recently (last week) migrated from using KVS to EF. I find EF is a much more refined tool with all features available from the one web site. KCS pulls together information and tools from many places including sites like Travelocity.

When KVS changed the "licensing" recently, and my "donation" no longer gave me full access to the full toolset, I had to decide where to invest my funding. Having found a 10% discount for EF, I signed up for an annual premium membership and have been extremely impressed with the tool.

EF is much easier to use for seatmaps and flight details. And the seatmaps for QF aircraft actually resemble reality, unlike many I had returned from KVS. I have also found the EF fare search to be much easier to use, especially to view fare rules and to price in A$ for purchase in Australia. KVS only reports in CA$, US$ and GBP, and the CA$ access has not been working for a few months now.

Was figuring how to find out U availibilty for a MEL-SYD flight. So I just called Qantas and they told me. :)
I then made a booking for the time they said U was availible. And lo and behold, it worked. :D

Upgrading a family member

Slightly related I guess!

When attempting to upgrade a family member to U, do they consider their status or that of the person burning the points when working through the hierachy?

It's the burner whose status matters.

Isn't it great when the system works 8) .

Oh it sure is. I was happy paying the USD90 to just have a play and learn "stuff" but now....WOW!

Count me in as another happy customer of Expert Flyer - I registered about a week ago not expecting much - About 15mins ago an email came in, and 5mins later I've scored 2 upgrade seats on an upcoming PER-MEL flight.

Very impressed! It's worth the $15 or so the membership has cost me.

Chrisb.

ps. Pity our flight backs are in booked in N or i'd be waiting for that email too - Damn qantas.

Yes, its a great service. I have alerts set for a couple of waitlists I have for upcoming AA flights, so I hope I am as successful as you have been.

I took a major plunge and signed up for an annual premium service membership for US$89.99. I am amazed at how much I have used it since signing up.
