Upcoming Qantas Frequent Flyer Changes

I tend to agree that the changes make the drop from WP to SG more palatable when in happens.

I do feel a little bit sorry for QF because when they do give something they get hit with "they got more than me....."!

Thanks RedRoo for the information and responding to comments questions raised here.

I have some questiosn you may or may not be able to answer;

When do you expect Platinum One benifits to be released?
Will it be QFFers who reach 3600 after May 17th, or when the benefits are announced, or anyone who already has 3600 SC's in their membership year?

Thanks again. I await your response, and also the announcement of the Platinum One benefits before deciding on the merits of this announcements.

(I am curious what BossReggie's thoughts will be)

Platinum One - additional benefits for our most frequent flyers from 3600 status credits and beyond.
Damn timing,

Just washed off 3,200 SC end April 2011. Doing more than 400 SCs in May.

Hey Red Roo if this was announced 1 month ago or my year ending was extended by 1 month, I would become a Platinum One.

Any love there?

Oh come on, stop your whinging.

I like the idea of WP1 - as Red Roo said, gives you something to aim for.

I'm actually really interested in what the media release said about Jetstar having add on bundles for earning SC's - often from DRW Jet* and DJ are the only realistic choice, because the QF flights leave at Midday and I need to be in DRW for the afternoon.

RedRoo when will you have more details about? Its seems to sound an aweful lot like the thread on here that talked about "would you pay extra to earn SC on a Jetstar lite fare"

I can assure you this - I would certainly take more Jet* than DJ flights when i have to take the redeyes out of DRW if that was the case!

Looking forward to seeing what the WP1 perks are!!

And remember people Frequent Flyers are designed to reward FREQUENT FLYERSSo many people have whinged on here about what to do after WP. Now you have your answer - Shoot for the stars!!

The changes we've announced to status and cabin bonuses are for Qantas and Jetstar Airlines.

In relation to partner airlines, changes to earn rates, such as status/cabin bonuses, are subject to negotiations with these partners.

This contradicts the press release (About Qantas - Media Room - Media Releases)

Which states "
The Qantas Frequent Flyer program will today increase the Cabin bonus to further reward customers travelling in premium cabins on Qantas* flights:
* Premium Economy Cabin bonus will increase from 10% to 25%
* Business Cabin bonus will increase from 25% to 50%
* First Cabin bonus will increase from 50% to 100%

* With a QF code on their ticket
."

So is there an increased earn rate on JQ and 3K flights?

I do feel a little bit sorry for QF because when they did give they give hit with "they got more than me....."!

I struggle on the sympathy front.

In the last year ATA was taken away, and in mid membership year the goalposts were moved on PG. Not so much "they got more than me", more "where are my benefits going?":-|

I'm all for others getting a bit more out of the system, but as a loyal WP I'd like to get a bit more too. Isn't that the point of the loyalty game?

No worries, thank you all for your feedback here.

In regards to Platinum One, the final proposition is being refined and we are hoping to be in a position to make further announcements later this year. May 17 doesn't apply here specifically to this change.

As Serfty has asked will the status bonuses for travel on AA/BA and the Cabin bonus for First/Business/PE remain the same for eligible flights on other airlines or increase as per your announcement?

The changes we've announced today are for Qantas and Jetstar, changes for other partner airlines are subject to negotiations - we are aware of this issue.

So many people have whinged on here about what to do after WP. Now you have your answer - Shoot for the stars!!
The recent WP re-qualification thread had a total of 11 posts from 5 responders. I don't think this equates to a lot of people wondering what to do beyond WP status.

Already loaded on the Jetstar site. Pack to get Discount Economy is relatively cheap. Pack to get Full Economy more

Just to reiterate, full Platinum One details will be revealed later this year, it's not a benefit taking effect from today.

Confusing :D but I understand.

Methinks bossreggie is/was at a previously unpublished level similar to P1.

I note these levels have not changed for quite some years.

While they have always been "subject" to negotiation, the fact they are up for renegotiation and these changes are being made does not bode well.:-|

There is a thread here about this and details are on the jetstar website.

Yep just saw that...

I wonder, i've got some flights I have to do, and I got the email about the Double SC's...

If I book through the QF website and get a QF flight number on the JQ flight, and pay for the pack upgrade, do I get double SC's?

Could make things interesting...

Will the qantas website sell you a pack upgrade?

-snip- And remember people Frequent Flyers are designed to reward FREQUENT FLYERSSo many people have whinged on here about what to do after WP. Now you have your answer - Shoot for the stars!!

But as I referred to in my earlier post, it's not rewarding WP frequent flyers who (either select, or are made to) travel in Y. :(

It's rewarding the WP frequent fliers who only travel in Y+, J or F.

Been changed now. I note that increased cabin bonus applies to bookings made on/after 17 May. Existing bookings are at the old rates....

The status bonus clause is confusing

9.5.2 For flights prior to 17 May, 2011 a Status Bonus will be applied for Eligible Flights with a Qantas (QF), Jetstar (JQ,3K and VF), American Airlines® (AA) or British Airways (BA) flight number. The Status bonus for Silver Members will be 25% of the Base Rate, 50% for Gold Members and 100% for Platinum Members. For bookings made on and from 17 May 2011, the Status bonus for Silver Members will be 50% of the Base Rate, 75% for Gold members and 100% for Platinum Members. Status Bonuses do not apply to Qantas & Partner Classic Awards.

Flights before 17 May, and bookings on/after 17 May????

Firstly, it's about time that you made some real 'enhancements' to the QFF program. Well done.

QF have obviously done the sums and it looks like there are a huge chunk of members who are Silver and Gold. But offering these new incentives, they will surely be trying to stop them moving to Virgin.

Is this a knee-jerk reaction to Virgin? Probably. After all these years of changing the QFF program to suit themselves, when there is some competition on the horizon, look at what QF come out with...

Current Double SC Promo (selected members)
Earn points on JQ fares now (optional)
Earn more points as a Silver or Gold member flying on QF/JQ
New WP +1 level

I guess having a 100% market dominance (in J) for 10 years can make you feel pretty comfortable in the zone.

(QF Gold is still the sweet spot and just got sweeter today.)

Ahh interesting... it pushes you onto the Jet* website...

Question is then do you still get double SC's as technically, its not a QF flight... Red Roo can you shed any light?

Ie to get the current Double SC, do you have to be on Qantas Metal?

Cheers
