Unoffical Wake for WP Anytime Access, Jan 29 2011

I think this was mentioned a few hundred posts ago but the point was (i) it was the chance to party in the F Lounge (an appropriate place for a wake, in my book) and (ii) I think there were a fair few attendees who used anytime access when flying DJ to and from the wake (particularly on the Sunday).

I think there is little doubt that the final event differed somewhat from the event that was initially envisaged. But so what? Rather than having a bunch of people at different airports, it turned into a social event with a surprisingly large number of particants.

It achieved its objectives, and at the end of the day, that's what really matters.

Well back in the SYD F lounge now enroute to LA.

Pure coincidence but more than happy to have flown out of CNS this morning. Only 50 people on my flight, but you now can't buy a seat out of CNS at any price for today except to Auckland or Darwin tonight!!

Anyway, F lounge staff had a good laugh after we left apparently. Some of them commented that they were amazed those big strong boys managed to lift the Marc Newson furniture over their heads ;)

ROFL!! well it was funny to watch! and I am glad they thought it was funny too! Hats off to them though, they did handle us rather well with all the orders.

I had to laugh when we were 'checking in' to the F lounge.

There were 4 of us (2 x WP, 2 x non) and the girl said "gee there's a lot of Platinums on the JQ flight today. Do you know each other or work for the same company maybe?' to which we just said "nope don't work with any of them".

Apparently RedRoo didn't have the word filter that far down, although at the end of the day, i'm sure they knew of course:)

Yeah, I couldn't help but giggle when I overheard one remark to the other as Lawlass, nlagalle, Danger and I were heading in:

"We'll have to remember to call JQ35 because there's a lot of 'em".

At that stage there were only a few of us in.

I also had to stifle laughter when the JQ check-in agent very helpfully offered me a seat on an earlier flight in case I didn't want to wait. My response "no thanks, I'm fine with the one I'm on" :D

I think the day was a success.

Think about it this way:

- Qantas lost at least $4K revenue (and DJ gained it) from our flights to SYD and from MEL.
- Many of us visited 3 QF lounges on the day, some people even visited 4 or 5!
- Many members got a glipse of the DJ lounges, sealing some loyalty towards DJ (and getting a very good view of how their lounges are better than QF lounges in ways).
- We all got wined, dined and entertained courtesy of a $69 (average) JQ fare cost.

I think all of the points we wanted to make were made, and our well behaved "wake" was the perfect way to do it.

After Leumas suggested we should do a lounge tour I thought it would be a good idea to include a bit of DJ to use the last of Qantas any time lounge access and JQ for some First Class Lounge time.

I was surprised at how many AFFers turned up.

Thought I would include a few photos.

Arriving into Melbourne.

Thanks to the Qantas lounge staff in both Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. I was especially impressed with the efficiency of the First Class Lounge staff in serving out 3 course meals, plus the generous alcohol refills.

I hope everyone enjoyed their day as I certainly did.

I'd like to throw it out to anyone who was in attendance to attempt to tally up the amount of alcohol that was consumed by all?

Maybe we can then start to get an idea of how much a tab was run up...
