Julie Bishop just said that if you have travelled to the 'banned' countries since 2011, you may now need to apply for a USA visa. We will need to keep an eye on this.

That rule was introduced in 2015 under the Obama administration (Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015).

It so happens that Trump chose to use the same list of countries for his current executive order banning almost all travel by citizens of those countries.

Some here have mentioned putting of trips to Iran due to the necessity of travelling to the US.

My goodness even Flight Centre knew about it-

I'm probably going to hold off on visiting the US for leisure for the indefinite future, given current circumstances, and possibly for business trips if I can get away with it. Canada, on the other hand, sounds like a wonderful place to visit right now!

I've been to both Iran and the US several times since the VWP changes came into effect last year. I got a 5 year multi entry visa to the US (fairly straightforward process). No issues getting into the US at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe he's getting advice based on this list...

Emirates changes pilot, crew rosters on US flights after President Donald Trump order | Stuff.co.nz

I'm sure the American Carriers will be hoping this somehow works out positively for themselves but what a headache for the ME3!

Another over reaction from the press.Note in the article this statement from Emirates-
Another Emirates spokeswoman said the impact of the ban on operations would be minimal. The airline employs over 23,000 flight attendants and about 4000 pilots from around the world, including the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

If your flight to Canada transits the US the same issues arise. This is because as we all know that you still need a visa even if you aren't leaving the airport.

There may be issues if the plane overflies the US.

The impact minimal on flights yes but the actual task behind the scenes of going through rosters and having to rejig must be painful. I don't envy anyone who has to deal with rosters let alone a company of that size (granted the US is only part of their services).

I take it as minimal staff affected-the UAE,Saudi arabia are not on the list.Lots of EK staff are recruited outside the ME and you would expect that even citizens from the 7 countries working outside their country could well have dual nationality.

Can you expand on that? Where do you get that suggestion from?
Secure Flight data is needed for all flights that enter US airspace. There have been some cases of flights (such as LHR-MEX) that have been turned around in flight due to a pax on board not being permitted in the US.

That is true, though doesn't affect me, I definitely still qualify for an ESTA... but regardless, I don't particularly feel like visiting US soil if I can avoid it, and I could always go SYD-YVR directly or SYD-NRT/HKG-YVR...
